Scientist disappears after developing personal cloaking device

News from a small orbital habitat near Matar reaches Gutter Press that a Sebiestor electronics researcher has disappeared, following the development of a potentially revolutionary miniature personal cloaking device.

While human sized cloaking devices are already in use by some military forces, including those commonly referred to as Dust Mercenaries, they require substantial computation and power supply resources, which usually restricts them to combat armour suits.

The personal cloaking device the Sebiestor scientist was working on, on the other hand, is a miniaturised version that could be worn in a backpack by an unaugmented human.

The scientist disappeared following routine testing and calibration of the device. Fellow scientists at the research facility expressed their concern:

"If he was playing silly buggers, then he'd be doing petty stuff like rearranging my desk ornaments", said a Sebiestor female researcher. "Since my stuff is still where I left it, I fear he's been abducted"

"Oxygen recycling logs on our air supply show a slight drop after the testing, so I think he's no longer aboard our facility", said a Sebiestor environmental engineer.

Local authorities have requested that any sightings of the abducted scientist be reported.

This is what happens when you hire Sebiestor scientists instead of Achura.

Yesterday, upon the stair,
I saw a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today;
I think he's with the FIA.

Please excuse me, but I have to disagree with you on this one, Lieutenant Kernher.
This have nothing to do about the State or our culture. This was a reference to a several year old statistical study, that had listed different characteristics for different bloodlines and ancestries. Using their numerical index, Achura inventors had intelligence rating of 12, while Sebiestor tinkerers only 11.

I say this is really an elaborate prank. Seriously, have we not known anything about practical pranksters especially the Matari ones? Especially Sebiestor? We did build a goshdang fleet right under the Amarr nose back in the day.

We weren't called 'The Sinister Ones' by our former masters without reason, you know.

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

Hmm. Can you imagine setting loose a Sebbie tech in a hostile hangar? With a cloak?

We need to get some conventions going to classify this new WMD.

I've got his corpse. Unfortunately, his experiments came at a great cost. I'll be accepting no less than 50 million ISK for his corpse. Just ignore the fact that it's a female one. That's another consequence of this revolutionary technology.

Wouldn't surprise me if we started seeing copies on the black market. Not sure about how their qualities will be, but I'm certain that our little Sebiestor friend netted a nice profit from it.

I believe she said it was 'he', which means you have committed a serious tactical mistake that led to horrendous waste of time.
Since he was he and not she, you should have checked the men's locker rooms.

It's not so much the gender, but the presumed sexual orientation (heterosexual) of the man that would make it more likely for him to spy on women, rather than men.

I don't think that position of reproductive system inside or outside your body affects your professional qualities as a spy.

It would, however dictate who you'd prefer to spy on... think about it for a second. Blink
