If i was CCP and i had to save a few million, i would definitely pull out of SF. The rent alone will prolly save them the few million over the next year.

It states quite clearly in that document that CCP's profits are down compared to the same period last year, and that they have incurred several costs associated with terminating the WoD project that are contributing the majority share to those lowered profits. I'd say that constitutes "poorer than expected financial performance of the company," which would definitely be a driving force behind the decision to close a local office.

I disagree with your assessment. In pure numbers, this is why.

Quote:

Gross profit for the period amounted to USD 33.3 million, a decrease of 1.8% without same period of 2013.
...

Expensed research and development costs increased by 28 million compared to the same period last year

An increase of 28M is 84% of their total profit, which is what compared to the 1.8% loss? They are blaming 24M of those research costs for 1.8% drop.

In case it's not clear:
-You are blowing 1.8% out of proportion
-CCP is saying that 24 of the 28M R&D cost increase was due to absorbing WoD. Of course this is the factor they will point to to explain the 1.8% drop in profits. Do you know what 600k is compared to 24M? How about 33M?

Your conclusion is overblown, and the TMC article (predictably) is clickbait.

This is the reason CCP gave for the closure. Hint: It doesn't attribute the closer to sinking profits:

What is of note to me is the fact that the end period was, what, June 30th?
Given the big dropoff in PCU since Crius, it will be really interesting to see what the PCU is like in Sept/Oct, and what the financials look like when the 2nd half 2014 numbers are released, in what, February?

As far as I have read, CCP has clearly given up on the high sec casual player, and is focused on their hardcore players with armies of alts, hoping to hold on until they can throw the Hail Mary of the new territory for the cartels and a sov overhaul.
CCP looks to have enough cash on hand that they can hunker down and weather the storm for the next 9-12 months they seem to be tracking for until major changes are made to null sec.

But the big question will remain: Is catering to the null sec cartel crowd going to be enough to maintain the game in the longterm, given the exodus of the casual high sec player continues?

i have to say, of all the responses i've ever had to threads under all my different alts over the last 6 years, being lumped in with TMC as a "click baiter" is the absolute funniest dumbass comment ever.

I think I'm beginning to figure out who the CCP shills are...

Maybe the question you should be asking yourselves is, how is it that CCP can make so many decisions that turn so bad so often?

Feel free to come back to the EVE forums when you can show us in dollars where the EVE component of CCP's income and expenses is showing a negative YoY trend.

Presently, you haven't shown us those numbers so you're depending purely on your opinion as a vehicle for your jaded platform.

Thread is titled "circling the drain", posts link to TMC article...

Yes, I've noticed a trend too, TMC does appear to be circling a drain. It's disappointing to see it going the way of EN24 of late. But, this particular article says little more than "CCP didn't make as much money as they wanted and some people might lose their jobs". If you're getting "EVE/CCP is circling the drain" out of that, then you've got your own problems.

So you have this country that every large corporation is moving their facilities offshore from, and CCP goes and moves some of theirs in?

That was so doomed from the very beginning. But then, when does CCP ever do something right without having done it wrong three times first?

Even the most ignorant person here can see there's an issue with that all time graph....Shocked

sigh... that only proves there are not tons of people logging in at the same time, it doesn't in fact, show the subs. As you do not know how many accounts are paying and doing long skill training. For example when my wife had our son i took a year off, but i paid for all of my 4 accounts for a full year. So i was still a customer i just did not log in. Thats the problem with the graph it really gives you no relevant data when it comes to 'eve is dying'

I just started logging in my two accounts after a couple of months not playing because of a new job and I was still subbed. We also should remember that the DUST514 player count is in the Tranq count and they have dropped some because of the the announcement at FF. I have only logged into to DUST since FF about 5 times and I was playing daily before that. Customer relations are not the best, summer is in full swing and new things scare and confuse vets so they don't log in until the kinks are ironed out. This fast paced release cycle may drive off players because they are not comfortable with the changes to their way of playing.

Excellent. Now maybe they can devote some time and energy to fixing nullsec.

EVE is a game about spaceships and there's an enormous amount of work to do on the in-space gameplay before players (or developers) are ready to sacrifice it for a totally new type of gameplay - CCP Rise
