PLEX - the best or worst thing to happen to EVE?

"PLEX was a stroke of genius"....so the subject line is a fraud.

Postulating the form of the time-space continuum was genius. PLEX may (or may not) be a good innovation for EVE, but it's certainly not CCP's original idea. Casinos do it with poker chips all the time.

'Cause your first sentence annoyed me, OP, I'm gonna take the contrary position and say being able to buy in-game currency instead of having to earn it throws the game entirely out of balance. You wind up dealing with a player base that has suspect capabilities. It's bad enough what you don't know. There's no need to add things like this.

PLEX? Beddy bad idea.

Oh, I want to add. It's neither the best, nor the worst. The BEST was - EVE came online.
The WORST? EVE goes offline now and then, and sometimes not scheduled.

The right to free speech doesn't automatically carry with it the right to be taken seriously.

Oh, hiding a CODE. whine behind a PLEX whine. That's cute. You should have seen my face when I realised what the post was actually about.

Anyway, the whole point of PLEX is that there is no such thing as free game time - you may not pay for it, but someone does. So your doomsday scenario doesn't happen.

Yeah I'm afraid of CODE. and this is a high sec carebear miner's killboard - and this isn't even my main pvp toon .

No if you don't get it maybe I'm not good at expressing my ideas.

Those 8 billion you put in today for 10 PLEX will get you hey I don't know - for argument's sake 26 billion in 3 years when you sell them at 2.6B apiece which is what their market price will probably be. Oh the price of everything will have gone up by almost 3, but your money will have been "safe" and you won't have lost any value. This isn't really a problem.

No I'm sorry, EVE is dying.. and at this rate there won't be a Jita left to redeem anyone's PLEX stockpile. It's probably better if PLEX is sold immediately while CCP is still limping along.

Edit: Linking to dubba dubba dot dot eve-offline.gov for declining users data. Number of users hit negative numbers recently, so there were -122 players logged into TQ on average last 6 months.

TQ looks pretty healthy to me

You sure.. maybe you want to look at the graphs more closely.

I will give you hint.. All time weekly graph

From that graph there is less players logging in now than in the last 6 years, not since 2008 has it been this low.

Ok, I thought you were just whining, but you're afraid too that's fine. This is a safe space.

Except - what is happening here? Veteran players who can pay for their experience of the EVE universe through easily (for them) acquired ISK are stomping on the play of newer or less dedicated players who pay their sub through cash.

What seems to be missing from this argument is an account of why things would be different if those veterans were also paying cash for their subscriptions. Wouldn't they be even more at a loose end what with not having to grind out a PLEX every month?

God I would kill for a banner that says '10 year vet' I'd even pay money for that.. (yes ccp that was a stealth take my money comment)

Anyway, 10 year vet here, well.. nearly 10.5 year.. **** I been here a long time.

I don't plex my accounts and I have 4, I pay money for them, so there goes that theory.

In addition I get ganked ALL the time, and I have 126m sp (ye I know low for 10 years, this is what happens when you don't use implants, implants are your friends, too bad I die to much) So there again goes that theory.

PLEX came about as a way to combat isk buying, and it seems to have worked rather well. These arguments are always stupid, because they boil down to esentually three points.

1) Plex is player controlled. If you want the price to drop, pull out your Credit Card, but a bunch, and undercut the market.

2) No one forces anyone w play with isk. If the price is too high, then pay with real money like I do. If you can't do that... then maybe you need to check yoru finances and find a cheaper hobby.

3) If you can not make the isk for a plex in a week, with very little effort, you are doing it WRONG.

Plex was a good idea, the issue is it created a bunch of entitled babies who are too damn lazy to do things for there money.

CCP also added other services that use plex which drove prices up.

/thread

P.S. CCP I will pay 1 plex for a damn tag that says 10 year vet. (once verified ofc)

Supply vs Demand

If PLEX prices are rising it's due to an increase in the percentage of players that are willing to pay ISK for PLEX as opposed to real currency.

This does not necessarily mean that the revenue stream for CCP is decreasing, since both groups might be growing in absolute numbers, though it is a possibility.

Adding more services that require PLEX also increase prices.

What if PLEX is cancelled?

Play-for-free players: Let's move to other free games.

Miners: Isk cannot pay for my account. Why should I mine? Mining is not fun anyway. Let's go to join my friend's ganker group for fun.

Manufacturers: Not much ores can be bought from the market. Prices are so high too. Difficult to find cheap source of ores. I don't want to mine myself! I cannot produce as much as before. Anyway, no need to produce for isk. Since ores are difficult to obtain, I could only produce enough for myself and my friends. I shall attach high price tag even if I can produce some for sale. Good news is that I can reduce the transporation cost paid to haulers.

Sov owners: Isk farmers that used to rent my space are gone. Moon goos are not selling well too. I cannot afford to fund the fleet. Not enough economic incentive for sovereignty war. Difficult to motivate people to go for the corporation goal. Kingdoms are falling apart.

Alliance memebers: I don't need to kill rat for isk. What? No ship replacement? No, I am not gonna join that tower bashing epic battle. Too slow. I shall have more fun in low sec roaming fleet.

Gankers: Juicy carebears are rare now. All I can find in space is other gankers. Life is even more difficult than before. There are so little numbers and kinds of ships and modules I could buy from the market. I have isk to spend. I just want to blow up more ships. What did I done wrong?

I don't have the time to sit in EVE all day grinding ISK, so PLEX is a great way to afford fancy ships and big boomsticks to put on those ships. If it weren't for PLEX, I'd have stopped playing Eve long ago because the ISK grind just isn't worth it. I look at it this way: I'm subcontracting my ISK-grinding to someone else who has more time and motivation than I do. I can do stuff I enjoy in Eve -- flying fancy ships, shooting stuff, exploring, and occasionally making stuff -- and not worry about grinding enough ISK to replace my losses and buy next month's game time.

Actually in reality Eve died long ago. What you are experiencing as real is in fact merely a computer-generated construct known as the Matrix designed to keep you from waking up to the truth.
