Player Features and Ideas Discussion

So in an attempt to keep this brief, a few corpmates and I recently discussed the possible merits of "Remote Repair Projector" rigs. If you can't tell by the name, these rigs would come in both shield and armor (and I suppose hull?) varieties, and would increase the maximum activation range of remote repair modules.

The idea came about when I brought up a discussion about T3 logistics ships and the Nestor, both of which are able to repair other ships but at ranges that render their repairs almost useless except in rare cases such as the Alliance Tournament. These rigs could also be used for the benefit of spider-tanking gangs, who often run into issues staying within range of each other. A more extreme example might be use on Triage carriers to extend their effective range, thus granting their fleet a "longer leash" so to say.

The trouble we had with this idea was creating drawbacks that require players to make meaningful decisions when fitting these rigs, since we assumed that regular logistics in fleets would likely want to fit these for increased range in order to kite during large fights. Decreasing rep amount didn't seem like a very good drawback, as it would simply lead to fleets calling for more logistics to make up for the loss. Fitting costs for repair modules was another idea that was shot down, due to feeling too restrictive.

The drawback that we eventually settled on was activation cost for remote repair modules. With this, it would be possible to have the same repair amount as before, but it would require a compromise on tank in order to fit more cap. Players could also fit less reps in order to remain stable, but get the benefit of range. If used on triage carriers, it would require them to be more capacitor-conscious or to reduce their considerable local tank. The drawback also affects spider or tinker fleets, as it would require them to alter their fittings or flying style depending on the intended range. While the percentages for range extension and cap penalty would have to be set properly, I feel that this could lead to some interesting choices with remote repair modules.

I'm interested to hear some feedback on this idea, and to see what other ideas players have regarding remote repair rigs.

Excellent idea. I also think that adding Remote Cap. Transfers to the same rig would help the same cause. RR gangs are obsolete to gangs with dedicated logi, and this option will help the micro management of such fleets.

Cap activation increase is a proper drawback, however on the RCT mods, it shouldn't cost more then what is being received.

The penalty for this rig should be remote repair amount. Just because I very much dislike logi.

+1. Well thought out. Improves RR ability of non-logi gangs (RRBS, T3, etc.) without making it too easy or unnecessarily improving the RR ability of dedicated logistics ships.

Plus, if these existed in Capital size, maybe an Archon will finally be able to rep POS shields.

Or you could use a shield rep bonused carrier...

some shield rep rigs would be nice .. why only armour rigs for remote reps atm?..

In my OP I had said I would like both armor and shield versions that would use the same drawback. Hull ones would be nice, but really I'd only want these if hull reppers became more viable.
