I'm trying to plan my career a bit, can anyone tell me what kind of rewards you can expect from L4 courier missions?

also, do they always involve lowsec? How do they compare to other mission types?

the rewards are lowest (IIRC) amongst the three variants (combat, mining, courier). No, they don't always involve lowsec, but if the agent is near lowsec, it's highly likely you're going there every once in a while.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

They don't always but they can. By the time you get to doing L4 missions though it may be a good idea to look into a covert transport. Once you get one of those lowsec stops being so much of a worry anyway. Plus their warp-speed and align time is superior to typical transports. All in all, preferred way to do business.

Low paying and slow grinding; but with a large enough cargobay you can do multiple missions at once. It's still risky considering the odds that eventually your hauler is going to stumble along into a lowsec gatecamp and fail multiple missions in seconds. You can use a covops hauler, but the pay is that much less since you're only doing one mission at a time. Yeah I got 8.0 standings with Amarr Trade Registry what of it?

So just out of curiosity, what kind of payout could be expected from a single L4 courier mission? Both in ISK and loyalty points?

about a million isk plus a few thousand LP.

But, if you have a good industrial (covert perhaps) you can make far more running the capsuleer market.... expechally when your delving into low-sec. Making trades yourself is much more profitable than L4 currier missions. Just with L4s you can afk instead of doing market research.

Courier missions are essentially there to build standing while afk (or, more accurately, somewhat more afk than a drone ship in a combat mission). The payout is mediocre and the LP is negligible, but you can generate the faction bumping storyline missions more quickly than running combat missions on a character with poor skills or an ill-suited ship for the job.
