Thank god for all of us that you do make these sorts of decisions. I don't mean this to insult you (much), but honestly it doesn't seem like you have a grasp on EVE. In EVE, everything is based on risk/reward. Having a safe place would be "economically advantageous" for the very fact that it screws up the equation by not having risk. In fact, HiSec already exists in a broken risk/reward imbalance, which is why most characters (75%+) live in HiSec, despite other areas of space being, on paper, more lucrative. It's the risk factor in the equation. HiSec is broken. It needs to be more dangerous, not safer. If you made HiSec even safer, only the most hardcore players would ever venture into other areas, and EVE in fact would die as safety is boring and players would have little incentive to interact and would eventually quit the game.

And we already do have "kid glove" areas of the game where griefing is off limits and you can learn the ropes a bit - they're called rookie systems. After that you're on your own. It should be up to the players to learn the game and teach achother about the game. It shouldn't be left in the hands of CCP (read: tutorials and NPCs). Don't get me wrong - the tutorials can be a great way to get people's feet wet, but once you leave those starting systems, EVE should really become that cold harsh world.

This is not what any significant portion of the player base wants save for a very vocal minority such as yourself.

So start your own training corp, then.

In before "I can't be assed".

For goodness sakes I spent the time last night to explain to a newbie what a margin scam was, and last week I took some time explaining freighter webbing to some corpies.

Me. You will never find anyone more willing to support just about any and all forms of "griefing", and if I can help out newbies, surely someone whose heart aches as much as yours for their plight can help out.

It's ironic how the "evil sociopath griefers" do more to advocate for newbies than the so-called newbie advocates themselves, isn't it?

I actually stayed up till half 4 this morning scanning down mission runners for a bloodthirsty Swiss nobie i sploded about it three or for weeks ago whilst attempting to explain how to flip a bear and the notion of sigtanking , drunk , through the fleet chat window because he didn't have a Mike...I'm dyslexic.
Didn't have to do that, infact the sheer volume of juicy and effectively blinded (ala overview fiasco) bears falling about the place lastnight was staggering.

Worth it though if we get a newbro for the Corp.

Establish a channel that has all the people you might call corp mates in it.

The Corporation mechanic is not the best option for social building. Once you have a proper social network established, you can even link alts to a corp system and watch people **** their ISK away on war dec's.

This entire alliance I am in is me. War Dec away, you won't get a dime, you won't get a kill. Any mains in the Alliance have no roles and will be gone before the war dec starts.

From experience I have noticed that many newer players do not follow any communications advice

ie they totally ignore evemail, local chat, even corp chat.....then start moaning because nobody gives them advice Roll

I'm a relatively new player (20-ish days) and fell into a corporation that A: Had several of my IRL friends in it, and B: was very friendly and supportive of new people.

Anyway, another corporation, one that seems to be mainly made up of PVP players who have been in the game for several years, declared war on us. Well, they declared war on like ten corporations at once, all of them similar newbie type corporations to us. Well, it's not the first time this has happened, so we did our best to avoid them and try to go about our day.

These guys were absolutely merciless though. We had one player, maybe been in the game for a week, get killed (Not just podded, but killed) 5 times in the course of an hour. Pretty sure he quit the game. They camp out where we have our offices, they seem to always be lurking on our most common routes, and they even sometimes appear out of nowhere 20-ish jumps away from those locations and get is when we're in route doing missions. One guy got me about 17 jumps away while I was doing security missions in Amarr space, I look at his profile and he joined the corp that day, and appeared in my backside. I get away with my pod and he sends me the message "GF bra" then proceeds to stalk the system I'm in until I log out for the night.

However, the back-breaking straw is: The EXACT same minute we get the "retracts war" notification, we also get a "Declares War" notification from another corporation. We look, and it lists the same guys that've been beating the tar out of us as the admins of this corp. Looking at their employment history, it seems the entire group of them have been corp surfing between the same four or five names for a long time, and they use this as a way to "extend" wars and continue to torment the same people.

They don't even loot our remains. They pop in, blow us up, then stalk us. Also, sometimes the game shows them as "offline" in the contacts list (added them to get a "warn list" notification when they come online) but they still show up and kill us.

This is griefing. All they want is to kill new players in high sec, and the game is handing it to them. I honestly don't know what recourse we have left other than buy enough Plex to dump billions of ISK into bounties and hope they get the message.

First up, I want to take some time to thank everyone who commented here. Yes, even the people who had nothing but insults to bring. It's been an enlightening experience.

For the folks who straight up offered advice: Thank you. I've clearly (and held no illusions otherwise, but this sure did drive it home more soundly) got a LOT to learn about this game yet, including ship fitting and in-game awareness.

Secondly, for the folks who criticized, no matter how harshly, either my tactics (or lack thereof) or my ship fitting. Again, thanks. It's something I can learn from in-game.

Thirdly, the folks who brought insults or criticisms of my forum posting methods: Yes, even you I have thanks for. If nothing else, you've given me more insight into interacting with the community here.

I wasn't expecting this thread to explode like it did, perhaps hoping to glean a few slivers of advice, but what I've gotten is a wealth of knowledge, as long as I don't have the ego to keep myself from benefiting from it .

I see many pure pvp orientated alliances and corps wardeccing noobie, industry corps and low population alliances who cannot fight back. But the way that they wardec them is by doing it the day before an expansion is released which is merciless and cold blooded as it can get.

Made sense to me, GD has been pretty well dead for a few days.

Just another tip. Displaying a good attitude is one of the most critical things in EVE. If you start using terms like "griefing" and such, especially on the forums, that is blood in the water.

Within an hour of your posting this thread, you were probably watchlisted by half a dozen people.

So, welcome to EVE, hope it works out for you, etc, etc.

Then we proceed to enter "War Mode", towers get extra ships/materials sent back to station, full guns onlined, PVP ships prepped and empty clones activated (or at least not shiny clones). Ride out the war, track your targets as they track you, Locator Agents and alts as scouts. You don't need to take your loots to Jita this week, it can wait til next week (Though that hasn't stopped us from hauling billions in the freighter when the coast was confirmed 200% safe).

One thing I can never stress enough, ALWAYS, research your targets.
