The little add-on DLC packs for 1.99/3.99 are in game Eve assets for real life cash.
Didn't a well know gambling site just get the banhammer for that?
What's the difference?

I assume the difference is that Steam and CCP have a contractual agreement that specifically allows them to do this which operates outside the purview of the EULA and TOS.

If Falcon gets in on the case they may close down Steam over this

Send an email to their legal department and ask.
I'd have some kind of business plan on hand before you do though.

Confirming that Gabe is very distraught over this. He might release Half Life 3 early to cover up the fallout from this incident.

For the OP, because he seams confused:

Steam is not a ingame entity who sells his ISK stash. It is a CCP business partner, not a player run site.

What a rip off. Someone please tell them all those DLC packs are way overpriced. Just download the game from CCP.

I imagine steam has the permission/rights to do this seeing as they already have the permission/rights/license to sell the game itself. I think....maybe.

The real issue is paying 2-5 bucks for:

Heron/skillbooks/1 core probe launcher, 16 probes/only 3 salvage drones, and some clothes. If the whole thing is worth even 100M I'd be shocked. It probably doesn't cost even 50M SP.

good on Steam for proving P.T. Barnum correct once again.

It looks like a steam add-on pack, and smells like a steam add-on pack, but it tastes like a contract in jita.

Maybe the discussion should be if it is a good idea if CCP spawns items other than PLEX for money in the sandbox. But since it is not a player selling the ISK or assets he acquired ingame like in somer's case (people send them ISK) or that of any other illegal real money trader it is not the same issue.

If it's a pack that they are reselling on behalf of CCP, the items are created by CCP, then it's not rmt.

However if the items they are selling were farmed in game by players, it is RMT.

So its only RMT when somebody works for it.

This may be the dumbest thread I have read on this forum and that says a lot. Ugh

Steam is not selling their in-game assets for real world money (RMT). They are selling a add-on pack where CCP will gift the listed items to the buyer.
