I have mixed feelings about this, although largely positive.

Making it easy to share overview settings with other players ingame - without having to rely on XML-files that are shared externally - is great and will undoubtedly make it easier for many.

Changing the data format of the storage file from XML to YAML probably will only affect a few people, myself included. Sad
I just hope you'll keep the XML import for a while to give me time to learn YAML to make a proper conversion of my overview file.

I'm also somewhat disappointed, because I hoped for more. Like being able to share my UI settings at least with my own alts. Afaik they are stored in the core_char file for each character, the settings for overview size and position among them.

And I have a question:
While I assume that you will continue to allow what's allowed atm with regard to "XML-magic", I'd like to know whether you will allow more in the future? For example you can alter font size, color and set it to bold, italic and/or underlined. But you can not set the font to blink or use filters.

Good point... when we did the d-scan changes not too long ago, we wanted to try out something like that, but the way the overview presets were set up made it very hard and we decided we should rather focus on the actual task at hand. Now when we have done some refactoring, the presets might actually be easier to use there, so maybe we should look into that again Smile

As a guy who lived in wormspace most of his EVE-life I'm waiting for this feature for several years. The simplest example of this would be to remove planets and wrecks from d-scan when doing anomalies in wormspace to reduce clutter and focus on detecting incoming ships and probes. The other "Tower Finder" perset for d-scan may invovle towers, planets and moons only. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEEEASE MAKE THIS, IF POSSIBLE!

I'm quite certain this already is possible - if you use multiple overview tabs.
In the d-scan window in the upper left corner you'll find a checkbox labeled "use active overview settings". It should be feasible to have at least one overview tab configured to what you want to scan for - plus you can change the settings for that tab on the fly if you have multiple overview settings stored.

Omg, please stop with the YAML ****. It's the shittiest possible way to store data.

No. XML is. Wordy, irritating, and a resource hog to process.

Any chance of getting a look at the YAML? Pretty please?

I don't recall stating that XML was the way to go. You made that assumption yourself...and you know what they say about assume....well, in this case, it's just you

Yaml is far worse

Politely not going to believe that. Certainly not for speed of processing.

Yeah, because the insane amount of data being processed is going to take hours to process through.

Really?

Is there a limit to the number of share links you can make?

I didn't see the booster timer mentioned in either devblog or the Hyperion Features page. Is it still on the table or has it been pulled?

It is another awesome feature I'm looking forward to.
Still on the table, it's just didn't really belong in the devblog and maybe a bit to small to be mentioned on the feature page Smile

Its a bigger change then the current version of the market tool tips which is on Sisi.P

This Big smile

I think you're underestimating how big this change is. I think it's going to result in a lot more people using boosters. I for one have rarely used them for the simple fact that it was hell to track the effects & when they expired.

The CSM XI Election are now open until March 25th, 2016. Consider Niko Lorenzio for CSM XI.

I have one question though: how hard would it be to make a drop down menu for d-scan, where you'd select the overview tab profile to be used instead of the current "use active overview settings"? Is it something you would consider doing?

This is awesome! But...now it's not so easy to change overview profiles when you're in the middle of a fight.

A decent feature, but since it only shares your active tabs, it's really of somewhat limited use. An overview should include all 30+ presets we have stored, not just the 5 we have loaded.

As it is, this feature doesn't let me eliminate downloading and importing external overview packs. It's really close though.

Importing only presets from active tabs 100% undermines this feature for me: It desyncs which presets have been updated, leaving me uncertain what presets have everything I want and which don't. This is especially important when CCP adds new items to overview groups.

For example, I want to update my corpies' overviews to show prospects... I post a link with my usual 5 PVP tabs up, but that doesn't include my scout/hunter tab. Now somebody in my corp is scouting, FC asks "yo is your overview updated?" scout says "yes" and misses that prospect fleet without even knowing it.

I will actively avoid overview sharing--and encourage my corpmates to do the same--in order to avoid this problem.

Improved overview export to file is the only thing that helps me, and that's a pretty big disappointment given how hopeful I was for the in game overview sharing feature.

I agree 100%.

Hopefully it's not too hard to add a full-setting sync instead of just an active-tab sync.

A "workaround" would be to export a different 5 tabs in each of 7 or 8 shared overviews, then load them all up, but at that point it's easier to just load an overview pack.

We use this as a feature (living in null), and don't want to see it changed. Are we in those PVE ships, or is that flock of tornados about to land on grid? I hope your dscan-foo is up to snuff!

Only the presets? Oh, come on. That's not real "sharing", that's haflassed sharing.
