If I was to skill up a prot pilot from scratch

what would be the best amount of sp to have at the very least and what skills would I need at 5?
barring the obvious sub system skills.

looking at making some alts to sell onwards,

played with eve mon and my must do it properly mind set, I ended up with a nearly 27m sp pilot..
and there was a good deal of skills not at 5 that would have been nice to.

cheers and be good.

At a basic level, you can probably get by with ~10M SP. Meaning that the less important core, navigation and gunnery support skills would be left at 4.

'Perfecting' it will probably reach into the 40-50M area, so finding a balance at which it can perform the most common tasks at 80-90% of its true potential is probably the spot to aim for, which I'd say won't take much more than 10-15M SP.

Given the diversity of the proteus. Really that is up to you as it will depend on the fit and the subsystems you want to use.

Armor -> 5
Med Hybrid Specs -> 4
Nav Skills -> 4/5

Subsystems -> 5
Gal Strat Cruiser -> 4

Then you take into consideration, are you going to armor repair it?
Are you going to use the drone subsystem?
Are you going to use it for PVP with the point range sub?

I would say put together the fit you want to use on EFT, then look at the skills you need for the fit and put it all into EFT along with the Subsystem skills and ship skill itself.

I forgot to mention, if you're looking to sell the characters, think of their various uses. Cloaky Proteus is really popular, for example, so Cloaking 4, solid armor and gunnery skills would be much more desirable than drone skills in that area.
