eve-bet vs sommer?

accoording to eve bet twitter you can support the upkeep of the website by buying GTC trough affiliate seller.

this the same as sommer had, Why is it that EVE-bet is allowed to run business in this way?

Because they aren't rebuying the PLEX for isk. You don't get anything but happiness buying through their affiliate link.

No but the upkeep of hardware costs real life money. so if buying plex trough an affiliate helps keeping the upkeep of there wbesite and hardware. then that means they get money for the plex sale.

Lots of websites have GTC programs with CCP. The difference is that Eve-Bet is not buying back the plex or doing anything else shifty.

they get money for being an authorized seller plex for CCP, a transaction where no ingame isk, beyond the guy who buys the plex and then sells it ingame, probably. The seller itself does not sell plexes and then re-buys them for ingame isk.

no it's not the same. they're not converting ISK to actual currency. When you buy a PLEX through their site, they get a bit of the money. They don't give you anything for it. Sommer was basically giving people extra ISK to buy a PLEX through their affiliate link.

But the person who buys it doesn't get isk from them.


Most alliances have an affiliate link for plex purchases too in order to defray upkeep costs. As long as they're not paying members isk for for purchasing said plex, its not RMT.

An affiliate link is not RMT. There is no in-game services, items, or isk involved in the transaction.

RMT as defined by CCP requires two parts. Part one is the handover of real life currency from one person to another. Part two is the exchange of ISK from one person to another.

See, both of those events need to happen, and be connected with each other. You give Bob $5, Bob gives you 5mil ISK.

Me handing Bob $5 is not RMT. Bob giving me 5mil ISK is not RMT. When both happen together, with the intent that one happens for the other, THAT is RMT.

Bigger question is:

I have a sort of a real life acquaintance who plays eve on and off. I give him plexes so he can play once in a while. I get a warm fuzzy feeling inside me whenever he goes and explodes having fun. Is this transaction of gudfeels for a plex RMT?

I mean, I could get almost the same gudfeels from a lady of the night also...

You're seeing the wrong ladies of the night if you can get almost the same "gudfeels" as giving someone a PLEX.
