Role-playing racism

Hello there, quick question.

Rule #4 under the Terms of Service, the rule reads out; " You may not use “role-playing” as an excuse to violate these rules. While EVE Online is a persistent world, fantasy role-playing game, the claim of role-playing is not an acceptable defense for anti-social behavior. Role-playing is encouraged, but not at the expense of other player. You may not create or participate in a corporation or group that habitually violates this policy. "

Now my question is this: Since I play as an Amarr character who has quite some background lore regarding the Minmatar faction. Am I allowed to have a somewhat racist attitude towards those players who play as Minmatar based solely on their toon, or is it still a form of unallowed racism? Since I enjoy role-playing every now and then, I sometime fool around by saying that I have Minmatar slaves serving on my beautiful Apocalypse-class battleship.

Just wondering.

I guess if you restrict yourself to prejudice described in the lore and only apply it to the appropriate in game races, it would be hard to construct a real life case of racism out of it. Just avoid using terms deemed racist in real life.

I think this might be acceptable if you never leave providence.

Outside of that, i think "gank the RP'er" is top spec, no matter what his social affiliations/views.

Tell you what I do like though: A killer. A dyed-in-the-wool killer. Cold-blooded, clean, methodical and thorough.

As an Amarr RPer, you could go full force against any Minmatar, don't worry.

Recent studies of the Hedion University have proven beyond a doubt that the average Minmatar's brain isn't complex enough to experience emotions like pain or indignation or understand concepts like dignity, faith or body hygiene.
So being racist against Minmatar is pretty much a victimless crime.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

What Abrazzar said. I have not read much of the lore, but if there is a derogotry name used for Minmatar listed within that would be kosher. If you start calling me nig***, it won't fly as that term is not in the lore.

You are never allowed to display racism towards players, regardless of their character's affiliaiton or lack thereof. Now, displaying racism against the characters is a completely diffrent thing.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Fictional in game-racism = ok. Real racism directed at other players = not OK.

Pretty simple, however let me say as a IRL person of 'color' it was....not the best thinking on CCPs part to go with the whole 'space slavery' theme then put the ...most ethnic looking New Eden race in the enslaved faction.......

But in EVE, I like the whole idea about Amarr being the chosen or enlightent race. While the Minmatar are filthy beings not being able to keep their ships together if terrans hadn't brought duct tape with them through the New Eden wormhole.

Any Amarr/Minmatar antipathy is directed at the character, not the player.

Just be clear about it, flag it as role-playing when it's ambiguous, more often than not people will be clever enough to realize it's just a joke but be aware people can (and likely will) get offended so be prepared to explain this .

I have a hard time deciding when it's racsm and when it's religious intolerance. Ni-Kunni are seen as lesser Amarrians, Khanid were conquered and 'celebrated' as the best example of assimilation. So did Khanid simply make the best slaves?

The modern empire has slavery. That's written lore. Most of those slaves are from Minmatar tribes. You could roleplay supporting that or not. There really wouldn't be any way to prevent it.

It was actually a pretty good and necessary move by CCP to make all the skin colours available to all game races, even though it came a little late.
Before that, Brutor were as far as I remember the only really dark-skinned race, and it somehow felt terrible to be an ******* Amarrian racist against them.
Now, since we also have black Amarr (and they are amongst the prettiest avatars in the game IMHO), we can be 100% racist against those Minnies again without remorse. Twisted

Rule number one is to never call a Minmatar filthy.
It is the responsiblity of it's Amarrian owner to keep his Minmatar clean, adequately fed and operational at all time.
