I started to go to a group of amateur dramatics (is that the right word? :P) and a couple of days later - poof, playing eve was fun once again Lol

I personally log in for the people and the fights, but I'm the kind of person that just enjoys PvP and doesn't need a reason for it.

It almost sounds like wormholes might be of interest to you, as others have said. You can do the exploration, you'll have your own territory (at least system control), different neighbors. There are even some politics, temporary alliances, etc, that happen if you get involved.

wow, thanks for all your replies, much appreciated : )

It seems the general concensus is to try out living in a wormhole and to build a home there.

i'm going to give this a go and see how i get on.

Are there any wormhole alliances I could join with my solo corp? one's that won't nick all my stuff? :D

To the guy who wrote out his eve-bio - thanks for putting in the time to write this. I can see that it has taken you time to find your niche, and that this changes depending on your circumstances. I think one of the mistakes i've made is solo-corping. I thought it would be a good idea to fly solo, not be hassled by overlords. But it has also detached me from local politics/wars and so on.

Well, I'll give wormhole living a try : )

I like DaReaper's points.

I've had a rather rocky start.

Started off in 2007 with a rather silly desire to fly very large ships in very low SP, something which resulted in losing ships and becoming frustrated. I had played on and off over the years and gotten scammed a few times which was a huge downer to me. Tried PI and mining also but it got very boring rather quickly.

Evenually, i sold all my characters for isk and started fresh very recently intending to experience the game as it's meant to be. Now, though i have a reason: Revenge
- I recently joined Brave newbies
- By the 26th when Hyperion hits i will be able to fly a stealth bomber for the first time.; Planning to train heavily into SB's.

Time to make those Scammers pay. That's my motivation.

If you want to move into a wormhole I highly suggest you find a corp/alliance that has some experience in that area and join them. It's a very different way of life, but it can be very fun with the right people.

Another suggestion - try some solo pvp. Head to FW space in a cheap frigate and find some fights. Don't just kill people "mindlessly". Kill people to see what you are capable of on your own. I find it much more fulfilling than beating people by numbers - it requires more thought and planning; tactics and fittings are actually important. Flying t1 frigs also gives you the chance to set challenges for yourself. Take on faction and assault frigates and see if you can come out on top. There's nothing more fun than gloating over a Daredevil KM you secured in a Breacher, because it means something.

Well, unless you are willing and/or want to be a scrub nobody who slaves away to make a small handful rich, null is out of the question unless you have a 20,000 member active renter coalition at your fingertips.

Low is dead thx to 23.5/7 gatecamps in any space that is worth a $#!t

And in highsec you really can't go anywhere w/o a pack of losers with no better skill or ability to do anything other than gank industrial ships..

So in the end, the sandbox is overflowing with people wanting to make your game feel like a chore and CCP has facilitated it all the way. Welcome to reality.

I am a slow learner so it takes me forever to get something in EVE. I log in to try these things and it keeps me self entertained.. it's worked for 6+ months now.

I also log in for the people I've come to interface with.. they are more interesting than the lot of shallow people who walk around in my RL.

Null, like anything, can be fun with the right company. I grew to really enjoy PVE broken up by home def fleets.
Low is some of the best fun i've had, the idea it's dead due to permacamps is just not true. You either died to a camp and got buttherted or just repeating something some highsec barnacle said.
I did missions and mining in hisec for about 2 years and never got ganked, do pay attention to your environment, they despise their prey because they can really only catch people making bad choices and not taking basic precautions.
You sound like a masochist if you call your whine post a picture of reality.
Reality is something you can make.

I'm really struggling to log on at the moment.

I've played on and off for almost a year, tried out a few things, lived in high/low/null, joined a few corps, created my own corp so on and so on....

....but i'm beginning to feel Eve's biggest strength - the sandbox principle - is also its biggest weakness. I'm supposed to create my own content - but I keep asking, to what end? I'm not the sort of person who can derive fun by mindlessly killing. It seems rather pointless to kill for isk. Everything I consider - and I've been chewing this over for a few weeks - seems to fly headlong into a cul-de-sac.

I imagine in the early days when there was much space to conquer it was exciting - a little like playing civilisation or similar. But just like the real world, huge power blocs form leading to static cold wars. This was my general impression of living in null. And if you do go and live in null, the sandbox ethos is thrown out of the window - a concentration camp with brutalist commandants seems a better description of nulllife.

But, it is not my intention to slur Eve. It is the most incredible online experience I have ever plugged. Its got under my skin. I only have to see a screenshot - like the one on my desktop - and I'm itching to play. But....I now find myself logging on for half an hour and thinking...hmm, apart from staring at the pretty visuals I really can't think of anything to do...and I log out and do something else.

Exploration used to be my biggest enterprise, but hacking the same sites over and over for a few isk...well, it soon gets you down.

So - forgive the wall of text - how do you vets do it? What keeps you playing? I'm really considering unsubbing at the end of the month; if anyone can inspire me otherwise I'd be grateful.

As a member of the New Order I have faith that my actions improve high sec. Making a difference can be very rewarding and gives me a clear goal in Eve.

I can see clear progress in my goals with every mining permit I sell and every illegal miner I stop. If you want to learn more see the link below.
