Hello all!

I could really use some help. I am experiencing some disconnect/lag issues with the error "socket closed" and it is rendering my game unplayable. I have run a trace program on pingplotter and it shows that I get some minor 10%-30% packet loss along the way at certain stops. I have called my ISP and they say there is nothing they can do to fix the issue and I know this is happening with other players...

My question is, what can I do to fix the problem?

Thanks,

this one IP is particularly bad ...

107.14.19.250

Is there any way to bipass this IP?

PS I am way out of my technical league here...

Thanks for all the responses guys!

I actually ended up figuring this one out, so I will post this for others in the future.

I was about to switch my ISP provider but then I tried using a VPN or Verified Private Network and it worked miracles. All my packet loss, lag, and disconnections have ceased. Very simple workaround for anyone who has the same issue!

Glad to hear you solved your issue, which VPN provider did you go for and did you select a London, UK based server to get around this issue?

I used vyprVPN, and I found I have had the best results when I connect to the best ping from my location. It cut the number of hops by about half. I am experiencing better game-play but it is not without issues... I am not sure if the recent DDoSing has been the culprit though. I am still looking into other ISP providers.

Did you ever do a tracert on exactly where the connection was failing?

For me its usually somewhere around the transition onto Level13's network between Chicago and Washington, and then fails a few more times while continuing down Level13's network across the pond.

The thing I don't like about your solution is that CCP has not tried to work with the ISPs or backbone providers and have said to just VPN to somewhere past the point of frequent failure, well with VPN as a solution come other issues as well like additional latency.

Where I used to work if we had a customer that was having random connection issues and we saw the trace dropping in the middle of someone's network, you bet your butt they were on the phone with that ISP to find a solution.
