My condolences to the family of a journalist who took great risks, and gave all.

I forced myself to watch the LiveLeak video, just I as I did for Nick Berg and Daniel Pearl.

A uniquely horrible way to witness the death of family - and the experience is shared with millions across social media.

Personal thoughts?

1. British accent on the executioner. Any doubt whose passport he carries? This guy sounds like he grew up riding the Bakerloo Line. At least it looks like the UK is finally waking up. UKIP, anyone?

2. I worked five hours of overtime today. By weeks end, I'll probably put over 80 hours in. Despite the US Army Corps of Engineers and the EPA's best efforts to slow us down, we are forming soil, concrete, rebar and steel into something I consider highly worthwhile - brand new training facilities for our men in uniform. My dearest wish? That my tax dollars wing their way into the coffers of Raytheon, Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics. THAT would be the cherry on top.

3. 810 days, and US handcuffs come off and our national embarrassment ends. As an atheist, I have no particular aversion to Islam. But this ISIS/ISIL filth? Napalm is simply too good for them. At least the Germans had the sense to attempt to HIDE their atrocities. Evil

As much as I sympathize with the bereaved family and his friends, the victim understood the risks of working in a extremely dangerous area and seeing someone being murdered in cold blood by religious extremists does not however excuse racism nor does it excuse any desire for bloody vengeance.

Don't get me wrong, but I'm with alph on this one.

Eye for an eye makes the world go blind.
Want to fix this ****? Try to see why it became in the first place instead burning everything. Best way to be safe is to kill everyone, eh?

Ugh

i feel the same.. (except the kill everyone part :P)..

But he understood the risks he was taking.. though im not making excuses, it is war over there..

Best to figure out how to stop the war to make this stop.

the "kill everyone" was more of a tongue-in-cheek commentary to how people think into solving issues nowadays.

After seeing the title I googled his name to see what movies he had been in.

Turned out that being beheaded on camera is the only thing that this guy is famous for.

A better title might have been "American Journalist killed in Iraq"

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

Why did you make an RIP thread if all you posted were ideas for revenge?

And if you turn the other cheek, you will eventually run out of cheeks.

And I mean no offense at all when I say I don't give a **** about this guy.

With all respect for James Wright Foley, who became famous earlier by writing stunning stories from war torn nations while at the same time trying to help the civilians caught in those wars, and also acknowledging the genuine anger shown about his beheading by the OP, this thread gets a lock.

Please people, you can not honour his dead by having a discussion about religion and international politics. Not on this forum anyway.
