scamming or bribing are what eve was built on, its one of the main things that brings people into this game.
Hell every year there is one corp that bribes another, in local no less, to fly (or this year MJD) out of the field.

Yeah, but it doesn't belong in a tournament.

You allow that kind of thing to go on in a tournament it becomes worthless and all you have left is a circus.

It would also be possible to win it without firing a shot, in fact nobody would need to fire a shot if they just keep giving up because someone paid them to do so.

Haven't encountered CODE myself (my Data Analyzer does not shoot rocks, though not for lack of trying), but I like this.

oaramos: |oh-WAR-uh-mohs| _n. — _Term given to early Caldarian wormhole explorers. From Rataani language; literally, "Wave-jumper."  _adj. — _[see: "moss" "mossy"] slang— crazy, insane

It certainly sets a precedent for what is acceptable "play" in the tournament. I suspect that ATXIII will see this sort of stupidity 10 fold. Now that people have figured out they can scam it (so to speak), it will be scammed to the hilt.

Not that this years tournament has been very good anyway. Almost all the matches I saw were won as soon as one team lost it's only logi ship. The losing side simply got steamrolled at that point. Very few fights worthy of being called "exciting" this year.

But can you really take those people seriously? Considering they all have the common traits of complacency and ignorance, it is safe to say no.

on another note.... lots of screen shots and no names. stinks like bad fish to me. im sure RvB would rather give me 200bil to make more ganked vids than bribe someone to throw an inconciquential fight. Poor show, poor show

I would just like to say that August 17, 2014 should be known now and forever more as the Day CCP Fozzie trolled EvE.

During the broadcast CCP Fozzie said "RvB Banned catalysts and talos, and so CODE. decided to quit and log off all their players"
I am certain he said this as a joke because at the time it fit. But in the end it was literally the troll from Hell.

Space High 5 to CCP Fozzie, because the responses that joke provoked made my morning.

Just keeping a timeline here...

At the time CODE didnt't fight because RvB banned their ships.

Several hours later they didn't fight to generate publicity.

This morning it was because RvB paid them 200bn: http://residentoutlaw.tumblr.com/post/95086813000/code-rvb-the-at-and-what-djentropy-said (mirrored http://imgur.com/upOKY5b ready for it being pulled)

And tonight it's because somebody paid them 200bn, but it wasn't RvB...

Acording to miner bumping they didnt have the skills. Once certain ships were banned they were screwed because they couldnt bring rookie ships. There was also alot of 'filler' about how they are the best at PVP ever (honest guv!) and how they beat clockwork orange because role playing is more important than a bit of honor.
So basically RvB pulled off a genius move to end the match before it started and I can only assume the money thing is a troll to make more tears.

And I made a mistake to take CODE. for serious.... hahaha... CODE. "content creation" (or lack of it) at its best.

Just, please... keep the damage control strong and diverse.

Anyone saying that CODE. failed to show up because they were collecting on bets, pay-offs, etc. doesn't understand the first thing about throwing a fight. You don't throw a fight by refusing to get in the ring. You throw a fight by stepping into the ring and losing on purpose. CODE. could have fielded *anything* and just refused to turn their weapons on. In fact, refusing to fight while in the ring would have made an even bigger political statement regarding the ship bans or whatever it is they think they might want to make a stink about.

Loyalanon is constructing a lie to cover up the fact that CODE. is a $#!% alliance being led by lazy, disingenuous people. It's the kind of pathetically transparent excuse one would expect from a grade-schooler who has absolutely no respect for anyone other than himself.

They've mocked the whole tournament and everyone in it... not so much by refusing to show up, but by refusing to come clean with the real reason as to why they didn't show up. EVE is only a game, of which the Alliance Tournament is only a small subset of it, but they're absolutely disgusting in how they view their fellow players with such utter contempt. Everyone who isn't CODE. is beneath them... and that's NOT a roleplay thing, nor is it some sort of attempt at "content creation" (I hate this stupid, %*$#F@ term -- "content creation" is utter bs like "collateral damage").

CODE. could not even deign to show up to an event that only a lucky fraction of players can have a chance at flying in.

I've never participated in the tournament, so can't speak to what is said in local, but the rules on this sort of thing are quite clear: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=350264

CCP Fozzie wrote:
The key point here is of course that every team must be trying to win. Throwing a match to allow your friends to advance is not allowed and as always we will enforce this rule vigorously.
The reason for this should be obvious. Nobody wants to watch a fixed match, it's just not entertaining. I don't think anyone is swallowing the CODE. propaganda here, but in the fantasy world where they were paid 200 bil to throw the match, their actions would not go unpunished.

At the very least, CODE should be kicked out of the tournament. Their place in the tournament should be given to whichever team got cut out due to their participation (or lack thereof). This of course would have no real impact on how CODE operate, but it might give a team who would have put up a fight a chance. There really isn't a punishment that would be too harsh for them to care about....
