capacitator depletion

hello,

i am now the proud owner of a retriever , but i'm surprised the capacitator depletes rather fast.

is there a way to fix that, i mean skill wise?

i've been looking into the skillbooks and i presume capacitator management might fix that?

any advice pls ?

thank you

The Capacitor Management skill should do the job. You can stagger the activation of the mining lasers (activate them a minute apart), that may help too.

The best thing to manage cap with low skills is to offset the strips. Meaning start one and then start the second halfway through the cycle. You shouldn't bottom out if you do that. Also, if you are using a shield booster, only run it when you need to. Or just dump it. You are better off using a buffer tank in high sec with drones for the rats. A booster will not help you in the least if someone tries to gank you.

There are two main Engineering skills for cap: Capacitor Management and Capacitor Systems Operation. The first increases your total cap and the second decreases the total cap recharge time. If you're looking to optimize your fit to be "Cap Stable" or to not need to worry about your cap depleting over time, then I'd recommend getting a program like EFT or pyfa and uploading your skills and your fit to see what you need to adjust to get there.

When and why was the Retriever's capacitor changed?

I bought one at the time of the mining barge rebalance and had no problems until a month or two ago when I suddenly discovered that I was running out of cap in mid-warp.

I don't use it very much so I don't know exactly when the change happened and haven't been able to trace anything in the patch notes.

"Warp Drive Operation" reduces the amount of capacitor you need to warp and is also useful for moving about in a retriever.

Edit: Ignore previous

I think it was when the warp speed changes were done, as there's no indication in the rebalance thread that they touched the capacitor of the retriever when they tweaked it in Kronos.

Mining barges are made to be a little tight on capacitor. Stagger your strip miners and level up cap skills as recommended above. There are also some rigs which will increase your capacitor capacity and recharge rate.

Get CPU and CAP skills up to 5 or you will have issues with many ships in the future.

The recent iteration on Exhumers & Mining Barges resulted in decreased cycle time for the strip miner modules. This may be the reason for any new CPU issues that have arisen.

It is a good idea to have all your core skills to level five no matter what ship you are flying.

It might be an idea to invest in a hardwiring implant to increase your CPU on all ships you fly.

Train engineering skills and navigation skills ( Especially warp drive operation ) it will reduce your cap need to get where your going, and with good engineering skills you should be cap stable or have somewhere around 10 minutes of cap. which means you just need to take a few seconds break between cycles and your effectively stable.

Also take advantage of your rig slots while your new, fit tank of course but also fit to fix the issues you may be experiencing.

Yield bonuses were removed and changed to cycle-time reduction.

I warned about this. Most of my critics ignored activation cost of lasers (180 GJ per strip, or 540 GJ Hulk / Covetor), and only considered the average "cap stable" amounts. These large activation amounts can drop your capacitor to below-average recharge levels (the lower your capacitor below 30%, the slower it recharges), making ships cap-unstable in reality when EFT shows they are stable.

I recommend maximizing your capacitor skills, and then if that isn't enough, staggering your lasers (which is a pain). Also avoid small asteroids, as that causes you to cycle your lasers more often.

If getting boosted by an Orca, make sure it uses the capacitor link to offset the cycle reduction link.
