Since the size of the attack bar can determine the outcome of a match, could we please have information on how it's calculated exactly?

I think it takes dps you usually see on in-game fitting screen, sums it up and slaps bar with that value onto UI. Nothing fancy.

they greyish 1 is potential damage applied and the red or darker 1 is actual damage applied

I see.
So it may be worthwhile to overheat your guns right at the start of the match, and put some Ogres in your dronebay even if you don't intend to use them...
