Rookie help channel is a trollfest

I've been playing most of the day on and off and trolls are running rampant in the newbie channel with no moderation whatsoever. The chat is spammed with deliberately wrong answers or stupid questions from the same people over and over, and the questions from legitimate new players get lost amongst the rubbish, or when they actually get an answer it's the wrong one.

Is the channel not policed at all by CCP? How can we report the trolls?

Channel is policed by CCP and ISD:STAR (Player volunteers that help CCP with the new players).

However, CCP employees are busy with stuff and it means they aren't always there. ISD are volunteers and this mean...they are volunteers, which means they aren't always there.

How to report trolls...F12 and file a petition.

The honest truth is most public channels unless privately owned will be trolled I recommend finding a mentor or a corp. Otherwise ask here, most of us love to help new players. Also many of us are happy to mentor new players.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

The player run channel "Help Chat - Reloaded" has a much better culture and is policed by players who care about the quality of content.

This is quite different to the last time I was in Rookie Help (when I started a new account for AWOXing purposes).

Back then it was useful.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

I think it may just be having a bad month; I am not so far out of Rookie Help, and it was fairly useful then. Best advice for the OP is to block liberally and petition anything petitionable.

There are other ways to get your answers if the channels are full of "stuff"...

Suggestion #1.... Take a look through the threads in this section of the forums. Add a few of the people who post frequently to your contacts list. If you are in-game simply message and ask if they have time to answer a few questions. I'm guessing most, if not all, of the people posting here would be glad to talk with you in-game.

Suggestion #2... Join a corporation

Suggestion #3... Walk up to the side of the cliff that is the Eve learning curve and bash your head against it until you figure it out on your own. This is the preferred method for those of us who are stubborn and independently minded...Cool

It's still very helpful, from this new player's perspective. I get solid responses very quickly.

It might be bad at times, but if you look past the idiots there are alot of helpful people in there. And in the other help channels.

They might be bad some of the time but EvE in general is wayyyyy way way wayyyyy better than most MMOs that dont even have new player help channels, or really any channels beyond General and Zone or whatever...

But if this is a teaching point that some people are and will always be asshats, and will find a way to thrust their asshated-ness on others, then i guess thats a good thing.

If you cant handle the stupidity in the chat channel just wait till you start flying around .. people will try to kill you, gank you, scam you and generaly harvest your tears for no other reason than to have harvested your tears. The development of a thick skin is required for EvE. But in the end it has the most mature, helpful, wondferful community of any of the many MMOs i have played over the last decade +.

Welcome to EvE .. ignore the Asshats as alot of questions, dont undock what you cant lose, dont be scared to just try stuff and youll do fine.

History is the study of change.

This one seems alright. My channel is always open for questions. There's a few others floating around you could join. Any of the regulars here would be happy to help you. Do be careful who you trust though. Asking questions is different from interacting past a chat channel in game, and we have all walks of life here.

Admin of said channel saying hai :D

Yeah the official channels are only modded by the ISDs really and since ISD are only volunteer players and there isn't many of them there tends to be a lot of craziness that gets left unaccounted for.

Small word of advice when spotting people who deliberately misinform the uninformed:

Add them to your contact-list with a negative standing and fill in the box that gives you info. Do not send a notification.

As your time in EVE passes, you want to remember who is who and why. Alts even more so.

I often hang out in the Rookie Help channel, answering questions, when I make a new alt.

In my experience there's almost always 1-4 dudes that are actually helpful (I do my best to be one of them).

It's quite easy to spot them after 3 minutes in the channel: afterwards, just listen to them and block/ignore the trolls.

And yet another mod saying hello Big smile

While the regular help channel is pretty decent it can be difficult to follow at times. I cant say anything about Rookie Help since i have never been there my self, but from what i have been told it can be pretty bad and most just turn blink off until their 30 days are up.

It's policed by volunteers, at times, when they're willing to log out their mains to log in their ISD characters. Even those can't really do much; a slap on the wrist is about it and even if someone is gagged from channel it'll be for a short period of time.

I agree with finding a corp would be a great help but I did notice that the Recruitment channels are not advertised so Rookie players do not know about them, and Most Corp Recruiters use..... Yup the Recruitment Channel what about putting the Recruitment channel links in the Rookie MOTD ?
