Hello everyone,

I've been playing EVE since 2 days now. I've completed all the tutorials/career agents tutorials and I do have a global idea on what I'd like to do.

What I would like to hear from you guys is: How do I start? What do I do?

I'm interested in alot of things, most of them being social/business orientated. I would really enjoy being a(n):

- Accountant
- Shares salesman
- Representative/chairman/Spokesman
- Diplomat
- Politician
- Contract Manager
- Negotiator

All these things are pretty much careers the game doesn't talk about.

Once again: How should I start? Please, give me some directions!

Thank you in advance,
Ghus

All the things you mentioned are more person to person careers.

Start by joining a Corp and being active in it.
- Worm your way into any of the above positions?
- Profit?

No corps ever let me be the diplomat because I'm a smartass and I talk a lot of smack P

They didn't want to be wardecced by every corp in the surrounding area... pansies

As L'ouris said those are mostly positions you gain within a corp after you have been their and proven yourself to be able to do work in those areas. Also, many of those positions require you to know much about the game. For example, it would be extremely helpful to know how aggression mechanics work in the game if you are going to do work as a diplomat. Again, as L'ouris said, join a corp and then start to participate and work your way into the confidence of your corp/alliance mates, then excel in the areas that relate to your wants and you will find that there are many opportunities to do what you wish.

One area you may want to look into working towards, that many corps will allow promising new recruits to wet their feet with, is recruitment. But again, this requires a good understanding of the game, how it works, and how your corp works within their current environment.

As Surfin points out above, it is very easy for a diplomat to earn their corp/alliance a war dec or more, so learn the game inside and out and you will be more confident in the paths you want to follow. That being said, even if you do know the game inside and out it is still very easy to mess up, so remember the following old mantra as it applies to EVE in many situations dealing with your chosen areas to pursue.

'One will typically learn more from one's own mistakes then from their successes.'

some organizations I've been around actually put trouble makers in diplomatic positions specifically to attract wardecs and other content.

So I wouldn't worry so much about your game knowledge etc, as much as knowledge about the corp / alliance whathave you and their goals for the position. Pirate

I basically decided one day that I was the recruiter and public spokesperson of my corp and started doing those things. When people started complaining about how awful I am at interacting with other human beings and asked me to please stop I told them to eat a bag of dicks and kept doing it anyway. At this point they have stopped complaining.

New player myself, but common sense says, join a corp and seek "apprenticeship" with a person in one of those positions. When you're "fully learned", hope that the position opens up or join another corp with that position open.

The game as such may not talk about those things. Because that's where your corp activities come in.
Looking at all those interests "Diplomat in Industrial corp/alliance, Logistics boss in 0.0 corp/alliance" pops up.
Something along those lines.

As with RL it'll take a while for you to gain the trust to reach such a position.
First step would be to join a corp/alliance with a long term plan/future and get going doing good stuff for it.

Those are all roles for which the main qualification is a high degree of trustworthiness, and for most of them, a great deal of game experience.

As an unknown, untried new player, the most likely way for you to be able play those kinds of roles is probably to create your own corp.

which is a bad thing with you being only 2d in...

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

@Velicitia;

Indeed, I've had some thoughts on creating my own Corp, but I don't think that will work out with me having 0.1 experience with the game/mechanics.

Also remember if you want to be a diplomat that gunboats are pretty much mandatory.

To become a diplomat i would suggest that you start out as a recruiter. It will give you the practise you need to talk to strangers, and you will learn how to turn someone away either politely or impolitely depending on the situatiion. More or less it will help you learn how people in EVE act,and you will become a lot better at "reading" people trough chat. It also gives you a way to show your CEO that you are willing to work, and if your good at it more roles is very likely Smile
