Hello, ladies 'n gents.
This thread's purpose is to gather opinions about the upcoming EVE Fanfest 2015. Now, my questions are:

How is Reykjavik as a city?
How awsome is the Fanfest from previous years? Is it fun?
What will be going on?
Do you think it's price-wise and worth every penny?

Please answer below!

Well, the IP address he mentioned didn't happen to be 192.168.2.1 by chance?
That's the default for "home", so in that case the whole thing might have been a hoax.

If you have a website and linked to it, he can (legally) use a public available IP-tracer to get a rough estimate where you live- no hacking, just google-fu.

It might be important to know what this guy exactly wanted from you- blackmail for money or force you to do something you rather won't?
And then there is always the possiblity that this mysterious stranger is just a RL friend who played a hoax on you, since he exactly knows where you live.

In any case, should blackmail be involved, I strongly suggest to report it to the police.

P.S. Nice to see you in Red Fed, hope you have fun, and send my comliments to them!

edit: hu??

Now that's what I call a thorough edit of the OP - you turned it into a completely different topic!

^ This.

I thought maybe it was me, but I see I did read it right to begin with. I'm not crazy (I don't have a document to prove it though).

Reykjavik is a pretty chilly city... and VERY chilly. I went to it in mid-April and the weather reports lied! LIED! They said it would be around the mid 40s (4 to 7 degrees for your Celsius people) with sunlight for the duration of my visit... I landed in a snowstorm and endured temps just above freezing with high wind-chill. So bring a coat.
Of course... bring a coat you can easily take off and put back on... because every place in the city has their heaters cranked up to what seems like summer weather.
Where was I? Oh right.

So the city itself is pretty sweet. If you are staying in or around the city center you can pretty much walk to everything within about 20 minutes or less. If you get lost, you can ask someone. People there are unnervingly friendly and have a pretty good fluent in English (or know someone who is).
Tthere is a wide selection of restaurants to choose from. However, you will notice that on weekends (and Sundays especially) most everything is shut down until late morning.
And do check out the night life... which mostly centers around bars. You meet interesting people who are really fun to talk with.

How awesome is Fanfest? VERY. Basically everyone who shows up is "blue" to each other... even if they are enemies in the game. Everyone loves to hear a good story or to tell one of their own. And you learn some scary and helpful things about the game and the people who play it (I met a man who was a director of several major alliances who were at war with one another... he said he liked to occasionally to feed bad intel to each side for giggles).
And the whole event is just soaked in booze... so everyone is pretty sociable and friendly... or they think they are at
least. Blink

There are a plethora of player events in and around the city. When I was there people were using Twitter (even those who hate it) to let others know where people were meeting.

And do go to as many of the CCP sponsored events as possible... especially Pub Crawl as that can get pretty interesting and entertaining (if a bit rough sometimes... I understand there were "incidents" this last time).

With regards to cost... plane tickets vary, but you can certainly do the whole trip on a budget. Hostels are the cheapest living option (which comes at the cost of privacy) but if you come with a group you can rent out small apartments for a few days and split the cost.
Food and booze will be the biggest expenses... food in general is quite expensive in Iceland.
But do make a point to spend a little bit on tours and "fun" stuff outside of the event itself. Volcano tours are quite popular.
And yes... they accept cards.

One final piece of advice? If you go, arrive a few days in advance of the event itself. Turbo Neckbearing with jet lag is not that much fun.

First this was a post of me asking for some help because some creep called me and told me my IP. I changed the topic because I found it unsuitable for this forum section :P

FanFest is worth every penny at least once if you're a serious EVE player (even if you decide to never go again).
