CCP Masterplan posted some tweets earlier on.

https://twitter.com/CCP_Masterplan/status/500243332048883713

so coming soon sigs will last over down time.

If you read more of the tweets you'll see he mentions "not yet on TQ but on sisi with next update"

Was a little thing alot of people wanted and CCP Masterplan sorted. \o/

Is this that thing Fozzie hinted during live stream?

Invalid signature format

I don't know how to feel about it.
Currently it is very easy to notice new sigs, after this change it will be harder, you will have to know what was there before.
On the other hand if you are writing everything down it will be very useful.

We've looked into this a few times, and it's not trivial to change. Involves a pretty fundamental part of the process that the server uses to create dynamic locations in space.

I know this is just about the most frustrating possible answer, but all I can say for now is that yes we'd ideally like these IDs to persist over downtime but I don't know when we might get it done.

So that took almost 2 weeks Lol

No more siggyduty after DT. There will be hundreds of joyfull Aussies.

Why do we need this change?

It's more of a hindrance then a help, because when you jump into a new wormhole, you will have no idea which signature has a greater chance of being a wormhole. It will make wormhole diving more painful.

Pretty much this, it benefits the people who play around downtime but for the rest of us who usually don't start scanning our chains out until several hours after downtime well it makes it more difficult in some ways.

great change.
i don't understand why people are going abloo bloo over this. you have to scan anyway, get over yourself being inconvenienced for an extra 1 minute. it's not like you don't waste enough time doing other things.

Because the signatures reset at downtime and all follow the same general formula if I enter a system and the sigs are:

adc
ddc
kdc
ydc
zmw

I will be scanning zmw as it is a newer signature, that is the signature appeared after downtime. If I am data or relic hunting in null it could be a site I want, or in wspace it is very often a new wormhole signature.

With the new system in place that adc signature can persist for weeks if no one wants to run it, but the rest of the signatures might be cleared, you'd get a system that looked like:

adc
vwr
kdj
rty

ETC. I can't make any sense of that or what is newer so I will have to scan down all the signatures. I Understand both sides of the issue, for me it's more of a pain in the ass, for the people that scan before and after downtime well it will help them greatly as they won't have to rescan everything after downtime.

Unless you dont plan on scanning the system all the way (dont know why you wouldn't) I dont see a problem.

I am happy because sigs no longer have to be rescanned each day after downtime to match up the previous day's sigs with today's sigs.

when i go into another wormhole, i don't know what's in there to begin with, so i scan everything. not just the new sigs like a skrub.
