Market questions: Large stocks, supply/demand.

Hi MD,

Ive recently ventured into industry and have setup a fairly large operation. When i crunched the numbers i saw the best profit ive ever had hands on but was concerned with the supply/demand, if i was able to acquire enough materials weekly to feed production and i would be able to sell the stock afterwards because of the quantity.

I can imagine that if i was to buy out a lot of the market in jita, what would be left afterwards is the cheapest sellorders being a fair bit more expensive than before and the market would shift. I did just this yesterday and saw buyorders rise by 18%. I had bought a full weeks worth of materials and so ofcourse in terms of my operations theres a buffer period of a week, but it still concerns me. Lets say that these materials are used in high quantities all the time in general and its a popular market, is the Jita market so strong it will just bounce back and even with the rest of the tradehubs? And if i was to buy smaller amounts over the week instead of shopping for a week at a time, i would lessen the risk of ruining my own prices right?

Likewise with selling the product, im sure there is a market for this quantity, just not with immediate buyorders. Is it stupid to make a post here on the forums etc about selling this large stock continously? Would spreading out the stock at several tradehubs lessen the effect of selling out buyorders or will traders just notice the Jita hub shift and even it with other tradehubs for profit?

I understand that all of this can be answered by monitoring the market as i do these things over weeks, so what im really asking is if there would be a way to answer then beforehand?

Thanks alot

For the most part the market (especially jita) is very resilient and other people will make money lowering the prices of things you bought out.

You could ofc take those profits for yourself in the ways you've mentioned, by spreading out your buying and selling over time or location.

There is no way to answer before hand. The Eve market is a highly dynamic creature with several thousand organic cpus introducing changes on an extremely frequent basis. You can make educated gambles in it but never forget that it is gambling.

As to bulk supplies or sales:Bulk Trade Mailing List. I've not used the service myself but it has been around for a number of years and I've not heard any complaints. I might even start using it.

Additionally, to your tertiary questions:

Shifting Jita: Easy to do, rarely lasts. To make lasting changes, solo, via Jita requires VERY DEEP pockets. Jita is used as a bellwether however so yes, changes in Jita ripple outward to other trade hubs. Not always equalizing to Jita prices mind you... it all depends on the amount of competition and logistics of the competitors. (See: Too dynamic)

Multiple Sell points: With some of my products I have indeed sold through multiple trade hubs. I rarely use Jita as a sales point though I do use Jita as a market reference. However my product line(s) are smaller in production quantity but really bulky. So the factors I use to determine how, when, and where are going to be much different than yours. I would say do it. Even if you divert 10% of production to a different trade hub weekly... it would give you product to sell and collect data upon.

Also, for managing multiple sell points I use my T2 Minmatar Shuttle. (Claw speed fit with salvagers) Gets you around fast enough to check/update orders. (Any racial interceptor works well I might add).

PS: I'd have linked the Bulk Trade Mailing List but apparently urls are too much for these forums. I'll bump the thread so you can find it.
