They are keeping you safe from whomever the government labels as 'terrorist', and unlicensed lemonade stands operated by little kids.

Now pay your taxes and quit complaining.

Back in when those armored bank robbers were shooting up LA with automatic rifles, the cops had to use an armored truck (the kind used by banks, etc., to move money to/from stores) to rescue a wounded cop.

Also, Doraville is in Atlanta.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

looks like the fuzzballs in the US are having way more fun toys.
TBH a well equipped police force is not the same as a racist one.

There are variations of these words, but very few statements ring as true for this thread.

"If men were angels no government would be necessary."

This is one of the prominent thoughts of the some of the founders of the US government.

Now, if you add in a population that wants to be protected from societies underbelly instead of protecting their own society, this is what you end up with; a militarized police force meant to subdue any form of unrest.

A well equipped police force, that is operated by significantly underpaid state employees, that have little to no incentive to not abuse their power in numerous ways, is not long for great abuses. That being said, privately paid police forces will often fall victim to the same abuse of powers.....oh mankind you leave much to be wanted for Ugh

To be fair good old 'Murica has about a 10x gun homicide murder rate than Europe so the whole SWAT response thing came about because cops were being shot up like crazy. And if you think that was bad you should see what LA does when **** hits the fan.

BE ADVISED:

You are all disturbing the peace and disrespecting my authority by not following my order to go back to sleep immediately!!

I WILL NOT BE DISRESPECTED!!! For I am a small man, with a taxpayer-purchased and government-issued weapon, backed by other small men with taxpayer-purchased and government-issued weapons.

OBEY ME!!! Your lack of obedience is threatening to me.... I feel threatened!!!

That is the great conundrum isn't it. Those same non-angles will be in government, and government having power, attracts those who want it and are willing to use it.

Sounds like CODE, too. ^_^

We need fewer Rambo/Blackwater cops and more cops like these: Police Officer Loses Dance-Off to Kids
"I had been dancing in the car all day long. We were leaving and these kids started busting a move as we were driving by them. I turn the car around and my partner was like, ‘If you have a dance-off with him I’ll give you some Jolly Ranchers,'” said Officer Krebs. (For non-'Muricans, Jolly Ranchers).

That is why I prefer adding the word 'all' to the quote, but for proper citation's sake I left it as is.

EDIT: It would also help if I actually believed angels existed.

Agreed. We do need more cops like that. The police should be interacting with the community not oppressing it with military grade hardware. This vid may shed some light on the use of the hardware though.

There is an excellent scene, from the HBO serie's The Wire, of the Baltimore City Police chief (I believe) where he speaks of the older days when cops walked the streets with a baton and would communicate with, socialize with and bond with their 'beat' aka the streets and their residents. It has not been like that for a long.

My link does not have the lead up where he speaks of what you linked above Khergit, but what I have linked is one of the main reasons the situation with police forces are as grim as they are now.

Something that would help return to those days is reducing crime, and not by chasing criminals, but by making less activity criminal. There are countless stories about police harassing people for "crimes" that should not be crimes such as growing vegetables, having a cistern, selling cigarettes one at a time (which was the alleged crime being committed in another recent police killing.) having a lemonade stand, bake sales, stamping the word "liberty" in a round piece of silver, and of course the big one, drugs.

Government creates more criminals with the pen, than does the occasional ill will of man.

Dont let the actions of one douche speak for the whole department. As for race relations? Any country founded and built on the principle of racial slavery will never get over its past. Even with a black man in the white house.

This will happen over and over again.

Think I'd be more concerned if they didn't attempt to retrieve a downed colleague. I see a smoke grenade and 4 people guarding the tracked vehicle while 2 run out and drag a dummy into the back. I don't see them rushing out and shooting pop up targets.

8,500 people and 10ish SWAT officers. Hardly 'police militarisation'. You crazy Americans cooks.
