Proper drones against dessies?

So, I'm using a drone boat for PvP and I have 5 Hobgoblin II's for fighting frigates and 3 Hammerhead II's + 1 Hobgoblin II for fighting dessies. Are the medium drones overkill?

yes, use worrior II's for other drones and frigates of the fast veriaty and goblin II's for anything slower

Light drones will hit more accurately... but will deal as much damage as they would against a frigate.

Medium drones will hit harder... but hit better when used in conjunction with a web.

It's really a judgement call based on the ship you are flying and what drones you have available.

Oh, and if this changes anything, I'm using an Algos so it gets drone speed bonuses.

Actually this is quite situational, with my skills valkyries can hit elite frigs almost as hard as warrior II's, so i dont bother swapping from medium to light and back, i just drop mediums, kill all the sub battleships and then crank out some berserkers to handle the big guys

the question you should be asking yourself is: "do i have a web?"

if so, use the largest drones you can. for example, ogres have better tracking than small pulse lasers. meaning you can hit frigs with them.

use warriors for fast kitey stuff.

other than those two things, the only thing to worry about are t2 resists and damage types.

BUT, if you dont have a web , you should probably be using lights for frigs, mediums for dessies and cruisers, and ogres for BCs and BSs

In that case...

For PvP:
- 3 Hobgoblins + 2 Valkyries for close range stuff.
- 5 Warriors for anything you cannot web + scram... which is basically anything really fast.

For PvE:
- 3 Hobgiblins + 2 Hammerheads + extras (in case they get killed)
OR
- (against Angel NPCs) 3 Warriors + 2 Valkyries + extras
