Headset Recommendations?

I just purchased a Razer Kraken headset, and it just won't work for me.

My ears are 2.75 inch (70 mm) tall, and the Razer Kraken has 2 inch (50 mm) ear-cups [my old broken headset had 2.5 inch (64 mm) ear-cups and was completely comfortable], which results in pain after wearing them for only a few minutes.

I tried "modding" the ear-cups by cutting the bottom of them out, and though completely comfortable now, they let in too much ambient noise.

Any recommendations for an adult-sized "big eared" gaming and / or audio headset? Cost is not an issue.

Thanks.

Have you considered open cans?

I have a pair of the SR80i and they're fantastic. The SR80e is supposed to be even better. Granted they won't blot out everything around you, but that's not usually what I need.

Sigh, never mind, you're looking for a headset... Not just headphones. I use a free-standing mic with a push-to-talk button.

All suggestions appreciated. I'm willing to try anything.

If you insist on having a boom mic on your headphones I would highly recommend you look into this.

Use with an existing pair of headphones or buy some new ones.

This. I recommend a good headset with a separate mic, this way you can use the headset everywhere, not just at the computer. I prefer an open Sennheiser headset because I need to be able to communicate normally with my wife when I wear them.
