Maybe the VIP mode is so Goonswarm can get their ganking ships ready before everyone else is ready. And ready for 'invasion'...

Alternatively it's just CCP having fun flying their shinies and being allowed in our space before we storm in and gank them.

Not really corporate thinking to admit you have issues until you have solved the problems at least part way to show progress.


Whilst that is very true for the first hour or so after I was booted not only was TQ showing as server up still , but it was showing that 11000 players were still using it.
As I was unable to access these forums a word or two on facebook would have been quite useful as I had no idea if the problem was at my end (I don't do Twatter)

Either way, progress seems to being made , so gj CCP.

Well since I could tracert all the way to CCP during this outage...it might partially be CCP network too. 22+ route hops inside CCP network eek! Smells like routing loops inside CCP site.


Possibly CCP routers scrambled their own routing and load balance tables in response to big external outage. As someone mentioned, automatic attempts might have been made to find another route...but in the meantime old stable routes might have been replaced as table ran out of space to hold data on routes attempted.

Well, it looks like CCP's upstream provider is currently Telia.

Almost an hour ago, the last reachable hop from Linode London was just before the Telia border router.

It's a problem with the BGP FIBs which exceeded 512k this morning at the same time the problems began, so its very much a "routing issue" coupled with gross incompetence by one of CCP's upstream suppliers.

They put the server in VIP mode because some people can't connect and it isn't "fair".

Forum and Eve Gate working fine, Launcher working, client not connecting. Says it's in VIP mode. Atlanta, GA here.
