The best ship and fit depends on where you're ratting due to different NPC types damage outputs, to get the best answer you'll need to tell people the system you'll be ratting in.

I see what you did there

CODE is just a bunch of pirates; smart, organized pirates. It doesn't help to rage at them because that is exactly what they want. Dust yourself off and get back on your feet, you don't even have to talk to them.

Just stick with a Typhoon. If you can effectively fly it in all its possible fitting options, you should do well against anything belts can throw at you.

Alternatively, use a Skiff.

+1 for Typhoon. That thing is all kinds of insane.

marauder vargur.

then machariel.

then i think typhoon.

battlecruiser and below, minmatar are not very good for ratting.

Sorry bud, minmatar are mostly PvP ships - fast, agile, and medium to short-range weaponry. Hit hard and fast. No real staying power or longer-range weaponry :(

What kind of ratting? I use a Cruise Typhoon for missions/anomalies and a PVP fit Cynabal for 0.2 belt ratting. While it takes a little longer to kill a BS rat with it, warping between belts as fast as a frigate more then makes up for it.

Never not rat in a carrier. Preferably while AFK.

for anoms you want max dps, alpha means nothing. so fleet phoon or rattler is amazing because damage selection and high dps. for belt ratting you want warp and align speed (or a weapon system that allows you to fight aligned like a gila.) so cruiser sized ships. maybe a Machariel.

Agree with almost all that you said Smile

I would consider the price to be a factor for the Macharial.

If your fighting BS rats then DPS "is" important.

Assuming from the question that the OP has limited experience and therefore limited SP (although perhaps 8 months in DCM suggests a long break instead) I'd probably suggest:

Cyclone: Fast; tanks amazingly well in short, concentrated bursts; fully selectable damage and a pretty good amount of it with HAMs. Probably not ideal for the OP but very low barrier to entry and well suited to belt ratting.

Typhoon: Pretty fast; solid tank with a reasonable amount of flexibility; selectable damage; cheapish and does not require additional skills outside the Minmatar line.

Vargur: The tip of the "pure Matari" pile; high, semi-selectable damage, crazy tank but expensive and (if relying on Bastion) potentially very vulnerable if your intel isn't up to the job.

Fleet Typhoon: The Fleet 'phhon can put out crazy DPS but does require a lot of skills to shine; tank perhaps feels a bit thin but...

Macherial: Gallente skills required but probably what non-purists should be aiming for, at least outside the deep blue where the Vargur has fewer benefits.
