Yes, I know what you're thinking. "Hah! What a puny killboard!"
Quite honestly I'm ashamed to have this killboard, and I'd like to turn things around. Let this be a post for all people with carebear killboards. In a nutshell: How can I find easy pickings? Whenever I attempt to kill something weak and helpless I end up with a battleship warping out of nowhere and me getting a serious *ss kicking.

Edit: I have Cruisers and Battlecruisers PvP-fitted waiting in my hangars, but apparently I lack the practical skills to use them effectively. Need help here, please.

Did you try to kill it with mining lasers or with the probe launcher?
You have to through the probes particularly hard to inflict some serious damage...

Form a one player corp then find some high-sec industrial targets, war dec them and shoot at things.

Or it's that's still too difficult to do, join those type of corps and AWOX. (you might get the bonus of forum likes for doing this in a firetail).

Once you learn how to make things explode, progress on to war deccing things that will fight back and be a challenge.

Somebody please put Billy back in his hole in the ground, and shut the bloody trapdoor properly this time.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

But then we wouldn't be able to see the hilarity of your mining barge losses. Lol

So far your lossboard only contains mining fits, an exloration fit and capsules.

So it looks as though all of your activity has been PvE related up to this point. However, if you want to get into pvp, I personally think you're making a great choice.

Some quick bits of advice:

1. Forget about flying the Cruisers and Battlecruisers at this stage.

When you start to pvp, you are going to suffer a lot of losses. Smaller ships are cheaper and easier to sustain while you build skill (as a player).

So aim initially to be flying frigates and destroyers (but T1 frigates are perfect to learn pvp)

2. Focus on building your skill as a player

While your character skills allow you more options for ships and fits; your knowledge and skill as a player in pvp is even more important. Character skills will train up and if you keep your training focused, it won't take long to bridge the gap to older characters.

Then your success in pvp comes down to difference in skill between you and you opponent; and making good decisions in a fight as much as possible.

So early on, don't aim to take easy opponents, or fights you are going to win. That will reduce the number of fights you have and limit your ability to learn (you can learn a lot from a loss).

So fight often against a wide range of opponents. Then your skills in target selection, ship fitting, positioning on grid, etc. will build quickly and you'll be a better pvper quicker.

3. Decide where you want to fight

PvP is not the same everywhere. The basics are the same, but the specifics of highsec pvp are different to lowsec pvp, which is again different from nullsec.

There's no one better than the other. Highsec station game pvp is just as skilled as FW lowsec pvp, the specifics differ though.

It's too much IMO to concentrate on learning those specifics all at once. Pick one area and focus on that. After a while, you'll be able to branch out.

As a lowsec pvper myself, I'd suggest focussing there, but that's a biased view.

4. If you can afford it, forget PvE for a while and PLEX your ISK

If you really want to focus on pvp, the losses even in T1 frigates can build quickly. If you try to sustain that through PvE, that will reduce your time pvping.

In general, it also seems that players that buy their ships after working for them, become attached to them. You need to have the attitude that a ship (and pod) is nothing but a tool. Totally disposable. That's an easier attitude to adopt when you have hundreds of millions of ISK rather than a few million.

After a while, you'll be able to start building your own ISK and give up the PLEX.

5. Find other people to fly with that are doing the same thing

Not only will that give you people to fleet up with, but the sharing of knowledge helps you learn quicker.

Solo is great, but you'll have more fights in fleets than you will solo. Never not solo though. When you only have yourself to rely on, you are more focussed IMO. Solo pvp can be really rewarding from a learning perspective, so a mix of solo a d fleet is good (depends on where you want to pvp too).

6. Analyse every loss

Accept that every loss was 100% your own responsibility and figure out what you could have done different to change the outcome.

7. Watch YouTube and read blogs

I'm typing this on my ipad, so I won't link any videos etc. here, but there are some really generous pvp pilots out there that post really useful material you can learn from.

I'll add some more tips I think are useful, later on when I'm in the office.
