How to fix mining?

As a career miner who has unsubbed due to boredom four times, I'm amazed that mining has remained largely untouched for ten years.

This being my 5th return (in the past four years) I'm going to branch into other paths, but I don't want to straight up abandon mining.

How do we make it more interesting? How do we encourage being at the keyboard? I'm not talking ganking, New Order, etc. I'm talking input from the miner.

Scanning? You're positioning probes, narrowing down signatures every 10 seconds. PVP is it's own beast. Even PVE, you're closing to optimal range, tanking, etc.

So what could we do to mining to make it interesting? Some kind of mining-laser focus interface? Where proper clicking, input can result in more efficient yield?

This is open discussion.

Earlier today, the Dixon Mining Guild and the Butz Manufacturing Corporation formed a coalition.

It's hard to tell if there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the Dixon-Butz Alliance.

As for your question, personally I think loot spew could have found in home in the mining mechanics. But that's mostly a troll, to be perfectly honest, I just want to see the screams of outrage.

Honestly aside from putting some kind of minigame onto it, that it's not likely to improve as far as engaging gameplay is concerned.

How to Make mining Interesting:

1. Undock Mining vessel
2. Warp to belt
3. Get your spaceship violenced
4. Go Do Something else

Readjust Exhumer/Barge base EHP to pre-2012 values.
Make pods drop implants at a 50% rate.

Problem with boredom: solved.

I have no issue with pods dropping implants but i do feel for the poor sucker who puts in a used cerebral processor and gets some funky space STD

That's mainly what I'm thinking, but what kind of minigame?

How to fix mining: stop mining

Let the botters and multiboxers do it and go do something that's actually interesting.

EVE is a game about spaceships and there's an enormous amount of work to do on the in-space gameplay before players (or developers) are ready to sacrifice it for a totally new type of gameplay - CCP Rise

Classic GD. Wonder where else I can take this.

Of course it's not interesting.

I'm looking for ideas for how to make it interesting.

Why don't you try mining someplace dangerous, then let me know what you think of your minigame ideas.

Find security agents whose missions involve fighting anything except drones.
Reprocess any loot you get.

There ya go, branching out without giving up "mining".

Although I love the "watch listed" post. Why such the hate on for mining and industry? You're ship, modules, and ammo you bought off the market.....yeah those were put on the market by the very same indy players you're ganking.

Many Gank affiliated corps have their own industrial divisions or hook ups
CODE. Builds all of its own Catalysts for example, and I for one have a Mining Division that helps provide for the ships we fly in my corp.

Its the illegal miners that get decommissioned, Permit holders are free to get their minerals back to market as often as they like, everyone always says it will crash the market to gank miners yet all the recent drops are from Crius, we've been doing this 2 years and there's still no evidence to support otherwise that ganking non Compliants damages the economy.

In fact i would venture ( punpunpun ) that we help the market more than anything else, stop barge stagnation, create demand, and we try and teach the valued lesson of watching local, D-Scan, intel channels as well. Its a Win win situation all around

You should join us, become a catalyst for change ( punpunpun )

Explained it many times. Reduce material costs by 100x, reduce mineral spawns by 100x. Competitive and worthwhile mining.

The only thing I have found to make mining 'interesting' is to multibox.

At one point I was running two Proc and a Macki, not because I wanted moar stuffs but just because it kept me busy. The 2 Proc had Ore holds suited for Omber, the Macki was suited for Plag. I'd have a ship always rolling in with a load while each one was positioning for warp in for the other two in a systematic harvesting process of a belt. It was mining for industry and not for sale and I was trying to fill a station with BPO demand.

Sadly it was short lived because it simply didn't work. I did it for a few weeks and my production capacity was just too low to keep it up. The end goals weren't being met.

I don't want mining to be more interactive. It's low-effort and lets you kick back and watch some Netflix or read a book or whatever. The income leaves a lot to be desired, I suppose.

The only way to fix mining is to have it connected to the Wii U where you have to swing the wiimote every time your miner II cycles to shoot the ore. As an added bonus make sure there's "achievements" and loud music to accompany you while mining. Other activities include making a minigame that is installed via origin every time a rat shows up to shoo them off. Also you have the option to play EVE in single player mode* where you can mine in peace so as to avoid those EVIL CYBERBULLYING GANKERS WHO PREY ON HAPLESS MINING SHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*All things done in single player mode(EVE OFFLINE) does not carry over to EVE ONLINE.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

making mining require anything else besides targeting and making sure you are in range will make it more complicated than pvp.
