Interdiction SHIELD SHIP

Just as we have a heavy interdictor that has a warp disruption bubble around it, I propose a ship that has a shield bubble around it to provide additional defense to ships within it. Similar to a POS bubble, except it only provides some defense.

This is not the same as a command ship as even enemy ships could be affected by it if they are in the bubble, and it will only affect ships in it, so the fleet spread out will not get the bonus.

Attacking ships would have to take down the shields of the Shield Ship, before they can take down the shields of the ships within it.

Oh, the problems with this one...

What happens when they overlap? If you can only have one up on grid, then first side to get shield up wins. If bonuses stack then side with the most shield ships wins.

If even enemy ships inside it are protected then if your enemy didn't (or can't based on above) bring their own, your shield just became anchor and you have to take it down anyway, where it quickly dies.

Sooo many problems I've forgotten most of them already cause I post here from my phone at work and keep getting interrupted.

Overlaps is like crossing the streams on Ghostbuster. It can cause serious area damage to all ships within, and maybe destroy one of the shield ships, or maybe both.

If enemy ships move into your shield, then they are all at close range, and hopefully your fleet is built for a knife fight. but it;s your call.

I feel like the idea is too exploitable. What happens when logi gets on grid with this shield ship? It seems to me like the tank of the entire fleet is shifted to a single ship, which can be optimized for only tanking. The logi then don't need to worry about other pilots in the fleet and can concentrate on that single ship. Elsewhere, DPS ships will only have to concentrate on damage and application. Force multipliers, like e-war ships, are often designed to be fragile. Such a system would effectively negate this.

Unless it were to be implemented with severe limitations, what I see is a situation where fleets simply stalemate each other against impenetrable defenses.

Logistics ships are already extremely powerful. After a certain value of reps are on field it becomes very difficult to bring down an opposing fleets ships. All this does is drop the threshold for logistical supremacy to a level where I may become impossible.

The ability to provide buffs only to ships that are within a certain distance of the buffing ship... sounds a lot like the on-grid links problem. Chances are this is not currently possible. Neat Idea though. Reminds me of Supreme Commander.

the issue with this is it makes these bubbles a death trap...

All I need to do is get a warp in on your bubble ship and launch my own to WTFPWNBBQ your whole fleet with a single ship

Why have a big shield that takes part of the damage fo everyone when you could just argue that theres a boost to the shield capacity of all the ships in the area... orite we already have that siege warfare...
How about resists??? orite, shield harmonizing.
