POS without force field

Yesterday we took down a hostile POS that had a chimera and Orca logged inside it. So I setup a POS without a forcefield and a nice array of weapons / tackle / ewar, and then bubble wrapped the thing. I figure this will make it very hostile for any ships that log back in after logging off in their old POS.

Sadly, this morning I noticed the POS suddenly has a forcefield.

I'm fairly certain no corpmates set the pos password (which turns on the forcefield). Did something change so a POS forcefield automatically comes online after DT or after some certain amount of time?

Far as I know, the only thing that turns on the forcefield is you setting the pw.

although, that shouldn't matter so much as they'll just land on your POS (although, with an Orca, no idea if they'll bounce).

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I figured an orca and chimera would get a very large bounce...

FYI for those that wish to know:

To unanchor the tower, you must unanchor all POS mods first. To unanchor an object, you must remove all ammo & fuel from it.
Unachoring a POS tower does not reset the force field in memory.

The following is conjecture, and I haven't tested this yet: We guess you need to repackage a tower to truly eliminate the password from the Force field. My guess on why the force field came up was because the tower had been used before and we never repackaged before we anchored it. At downtime, it seems to have remembered it used to have a password, and updated it with the new password, turning on the FF.

Calling it exploiting is a bit of an overstatement.

I was merely asking for assistance from others that have more experience in setting up bug zapper POS's. I figure I can bring in another tower later this week and set up the zapper properly. It gives my opponents a window of opportunity to save their carrier, but their Orca's still in a lot of trouble.

Could try bubbling around the POS so when they log in they land in the bubble without hitting the shield, removes the worry about the bumping off. Or could station a linked rapier there and blow up their sig and web them down to de-cellerate them after the bump and let the pos perform its magic after that.

They won't bounce in the case the OP stated, instead they will stop at the edge of the NEW force field upon login.

This was part of anti-bowling measures implemented years ago.

To be ejected now requires that you have at least temporary ability to enter the force field.

We once had to chase an out-of-corp Archon that was left in the force field unpiloted. When the pilot logged-in in another ship, the Archon was ejected, and the pilot stopped at the force field and was destroyed by the POS defenses. We managed to catch the high-speed Archon with an interceptor, though it took a few attempts to board the Archon.

I tested this today on sisi:

I logged off an out-of-corp Moros 2 km's from a small POS tower, onlined the tower, and logged the moros back in.
Upon logging in, the moros landed right next the tower (~2 km's from it). After finishing the warp, the POS shields ejected the Moros at 4 km / s, at which point I sieged, thereby retaining that crazy speed for most of the seige cycle. The result was I easily coasted right off the grid.

I wonder what would happen if I had ships floating in space for the Moros to bump?
