Evidently the most popular game in the world.. World of Warcraft has lost 50% of its subscriptions since 2010.

Altho EvE has not been helped very much with folks like GM "I need to nerf Hi-sec as much as possible before I leave" Soundwave as the HMFIC, until it loses 50% of its subscriptions you simply cannot say EvE is dying.

That is all.

You Miners think you have it so damn tough.  When I first started playing we didnt even have mining lasers.  You had to fly close to an asteroid.....pop a hatch and gnaw at it with your teeth.   - Bitter Vet

Until EVE has 11 million subscriptions, this is a silly argument.

Why are we comparing EVE and WoW?

I'm no tomato-lover, though I can tolerate it in small doses in a sandwich or a salad.
Can't say I've ever eaten an elephant.

I do find it funny that they used the 2010 highpoint as a benchmark. You know what that year coincides with? The return of difficult instance content (until they nerfed it for the QQbears) with Cataclysm's launch, and later with the introduction of LFR for the shitlers.

Seriously, you think the "Eve is too hard and mean" sperg here is bad? Go look at the December to February 2010 WoW forums. It was ******* hilarious.

What can we take away from this? Bads will always suck, no matter what game they play, and we should not kowtow to their whiny bullshit, because they are just going to leave anyway.

I wish I could like this post twice, once for the general sentiment and once for correct use of the word "kowtow".

see, that's why I left, because **** got too easy. there was no risk, only reward, and as long as you had x number of mouth-breathing douchebags anyone could get "top tier" gear

that and the grind, no I don't want to grind reputation with you, but since you have crap I need to progress I have to anyway.

at least with eve I get to see explosions when I raise standings

I've been saying it for years here. Some people THINK they want easier and safer, but when you make things easier and safer, the same people get bored and leave lol.

I heard a joke about it once, and be warned, this is horribly politically incorrect lol:

So this guy is married to this wonderful woman. But he himself is a world class jerk. Lying, cheating, arrogant scum bag. Year after year she tells him he needs to be a better man or she'll leave. Years after year she doesn't. He's been that way since the 1st day she met him.

One day he gets into a horrendous car accident. Spends a month in the hospital and during this time he realizes what an Ass he's been, how he doesn't deserve his wife, and how he's going to do better once he gets home. And he does. He gets released from the hospital and showers his wife with love, attention and affection.

A week later he comes home from work to find that she's moved out. On the counter is a letter. He opens it and reads. It says "Dear Husband, the last week has been wonderful but I have to leave you now. Mainly because you are no longer the man I fell in love with.

She eventually finds love with a new guy, an unemployed alcoholic ex convict..........

Pretty much.
To bite a WoW related quote from Greg Street when people were QQing about difficulty, and certain things being underpowered:
"Have you ever played an electronic game on god mode?
(UUDDLRLRBABASTART.) It's cute for about fifteen minutes. Then you realize there is no challenge. You don't have to keep on your toes. You can't strive to get better at the game. I can load up my personal copy of WoW right now and go through and death touch all of the bosses in Icecrown. Guess how much time I actually spend doing that. It's just not very compelling."

It's a shame the man caved to corporate pressure and lost his HTFU attitude.

I noticed Eve went wow direction in the last years. Wormholes were really good addition, after this all patches introduced/changed content into farming mode, daily & hourly quests, requiring more accounts just to be able to play the game.
It's probably a normal transition in order to attract normal people to eve....but what about the rest of us with special needs :)

Eve players constantly trash WoW. WoW players for the most part don't know Eve exists. I left Eve to play ESO, which I am enjoying because I can play it for an hour or two at a time and have some fun. It doesn't have to be my life. (And I played Eve for five years and my main had 1500 player kills, so I'm not exactly a carebear.) The only time Eve comes up on the ESO forums is as a negative comparison.

Eve players are welcome to their sandbox. But this assumption that Eve is somehow the top of the heap and the ultimate gaming experience is pretty arrogant and rather ludicrous. Lots and lots of people like to play in theme parks and they don't harm anybody by doing so. Where does all this attitude come from? A game should be fun and rewarding as far as I'm concerned; I'm looking for amusement, not a way of life.

That's the reason I left Eve. I had to think about Eve almost the same way I thought about my job. That just got to be too much.

(And I'm back this month because I had to log on to help my old corp out by moving my stock to another player, to answer the obvious question of why I'm still here to post.)

Then why, exactly, are you posting here ?

You're obviously a part of the instant gratification crowd many of us come here to get away from. And why do you care about how EVE players feel about the game they play on a forum dedicated to EVE. It seems like you have way too much time on your hands.

EVE is more hobby than game. I enjoy everything I do in EVE, it's not a job , mainly because I can't do my job while buck ass naked and drinking beer.

(If anyone knows of any jobs that you can do while buck ass naked and drinking beer, I'd appreciate it forever Big smile )

Sometimes playing Eve is like having a hot girlfriend who's idea of a good time is hanging out at the public library studying the Dewey Decimal System.

Ban, no one ever said that Eve is "the top of the pile", as it never has been. It's always been a niche game, and it likely always will be.

Usually, when people dogpile the vitriol upon themepark games, is when people start suggesting themepark elements be implemented in Eve. There's nothing wrong with enjoying themeparks. There's something very wrong with suggesting that we build one in the middle of a warzone (Eve).

We merely suggest that people who want such things "go back to WoW" instead of trying to bring it with them.

It does, however, equal a gigantic pile of money. Put it this way: WoW can lose 50% of its subscribes, still have 5million or more left, and still have a giant pile of money coming in. If EVE lost 50%, it would lose the critical mass necessary to continue the sandbox. Hell, it's getting close to losing that critical mass now, and it HASNT lost 50%.
