A cleaner look for the skybox transition through stargates

EVE's graphics are beautiful, don't get me wrong, especially with the improvements in Crucible. Stargates are awesome-looking now with their non-horizontal angles, and foreboding shadows.

But - the skybox transition is messy at present.

1) exiting system skybox goes to black and then comes back again! nasty-looking.
2) items in the exiting system disappear one by one, leaving the skybox sitting there last of all.
3) UI in the new system builds up bit by bit, on screen as you watch - very messy.

it would be better if the entire screen (or the majority of on-screen elements) were simply black during this transition. The Neocom, the shield/armour/hull and modules area at the bottom, and the progress bar dialog that says "Entering Space" could all be visible, but the screen should be black until all elements are ready to display. It looks amateurish when they all come onto the screen at different times due to the various program threads working independently of each other.

Here is a video showing a cleaner look, which I put together w/ Vegas and doesn't have all the ideas above built-in What? The amount of black in this video is 1.5 seconds, and it isn't adding time to the timeline, it's just the same as what the game does.

Good idea, OP, and probably simple to implement. One can dream of an even smoother system-to-system transition, where the NeoCom UI remains in operation continuously, and your ship actually moves across the light years of space during the jump, but that's probably harder to develop.

Now THAT would be something! See the nebulae fly past the window!

The most annoying thing in my opinion is that when you use the stargate the camera is rotated, so if you jump towards a nebula and the camera spins 180 degrees after the jump instead of ending up looking to the nebula(closer now) you end up looking somewhere else... it mess up with our sense of direction... fixing this would fix half of the problems,,,, but obviously seeing the nebula fly by would be awesome!!!

I'd though a bout mentioning the "travel" aspect. We could see something like the "tube" seen in "Avatar" when being transported into the mind of the Na-Vi, or in "Contact" when Jodie Foster is bring transported through the wormhole.

You don't want to introduce time delays in gameplay though. The trip must be as instantaneous as possible.

So - if CCP could store a canned Bink movie in RAM, that lasts a maximum of (say) 3 seconds), without sacrificing the frame rate of the movie, they could play that from RAM while the computer does its other loading stuff. What we would see as players would be a nice visual experience that can be interrupted when loading is complete.

How about the ripple effect from the new warp tunnel? Have it ripple out of the jumpgate light distorting the view then when clearing showing the destination system.
