In game browser working?

I'm currently on Linux Mint 16, Wine 1.7.18

My game works very well -- a few stutters and hiccups here and there, but very playable. The one problem I'm having is that the in game browser (IGB) locks up my client for a few seconds then sits forever trying to load whenever I try to either open the browser or click on a link.

Are there any tips/workarounds/tweaks for the IGB? I'm currently just copy pastaing everything into my desktop browser, which works ok, but isn't always very convenient. In particular, I'd like to use the IGB for some of the WH based tools like Siggy.

I get the following error log from Wine when I try to use the browser: http://pastebin.com/AL61i8TY

Thanks for taking the time to read!

I have never seen this level of error before. Does this happen on all browser calls, like https://gate.eveonline.com/ ? Or does it happen only on certain pages?

Can you consider filing a CCP bug report? Even though they don't support Linux, we sometimes get some dev help for severe errors like this. It does prevent you from clicking on pap links, if you're part of a large alliance, like my own.

Thanks for taking a look.

I get the same thing from both clicking links in chat and from typing a URL directly into the bar. EvEGate and a variety of other pages (Google, Reddit, imgu, pastebin, New York Times, etc) all return the same message.

I'm particularly surprised because this is a very fresh Linux Mint install; other than the default programs I've installed very little. As such, I had assumed it was a more widespread problem.

I'll work up a bug report this weekend (pretty busy the next few days) and see what kind of a response I get.

What are 'pap links'? I don't recognize that acronym.

The screenshot that Steal Munba posted is exactly what I'm getting.

Participation links, it's common amongst large entities to see who's actually playing anymore, and who is just off ratting.

Clear the wineprefix /or create a new one, this will fix the crashing browser.

I've just recently started having this problem. Was there any confirmation that clearing the wineprefix would resolve the problem? If so, this would suggest that there is something stored there causing the issue. Maybe a config file that could be deleted?

how does one go about clearing the wine prefix? I assume this will require a reinstallation?

Not necessarily. The prefix is the Windows environment created by wine, per default it's in ~/.wine, but you can change this by either running export WINEPREFIX=/whichever/path/you/want or by adding WINEPREFIX=some/path in front of the command you use to run your game. You can either delete ~/.wine or just create a new prefix, using this variable.

Note that only your "C:\" resides inside the prefix, so if you make a new one, everything you have installed under C:\ will not be available there. However, you can install Eve wherever you want, your root directory is mapped to Z:\ per default, so Z:\home\username\ would be your home. You can also copy your Eve installation from your old prefix (per default /home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/Eve) somewhere else and avoid having to reinstall Eve that way.

However, it's quite possible, that ingame browser issues are not related to the actual wine prefix, but to the Eve Online cache. Maybe try clearing your cache first. Just delete everything in ~/.wine/drive_c/users/username/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility/cache. (Again, this is the default path, adjust as necessary)

I can confirm that at least in my case, the wine prefix is not the culprit.

I deleted the wine prefix and did a brand new install. This fixed a few other errors that I was seeing, but did not correct the problem with the browser.

I'm seeing the browser crashes on all websites on a new prefix.

Its a driver (like5 if them), you need off of winetricks. Mostly some dx9 ones. I'll find the list by next week. Its 4 of them ending in 200 something. Fixed it in my install.

Yaay!!!!

Lookup playonlinux. Should help. But eitherway.

Go to winetricks, look and install

winetricks corefonts d3dx9_36 vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010

Yaay!!!!

The winetricks changes didn't solve the problem for me unfortunately.

*edit* it seems to be working now. No idea what's changed.

I had the same error, but for me installining ie8 in the prefix solved the issue...

Can confirm this is still an issue with a freshly installed Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon, but the winetricks solution resolved the in-game browser problem for me.

Yep, winetricks worked here too. Don't think I've had a working ingame browser since... when did they scrap the old ingame browser?

Confirming this.

Installing eve did prompt me to install mono which I am assuming is because of the .net dependences but I guess mono and the IGB does not work as of yet.

On the off chance this is helpful to someone who understands the technology...

For my initial char (Nov 2014), the IGB worked for the first 1-2 days, then began loading only 404-type messages. I gave up using it. I noticed a few days later, instead of opening a working or non-working page it would just load the IGB title bar, but no window. So I continued giving up.

About 40 days later I created my alt, and the IGB worked fine there. About a week ago I tried the IGB in my main and still just a title bar. I click-crazied the title bar trying to make it do something, and suddenly the browser content window opened, working. It has worked normally since.

On Ubuntu 14.04, installed EVE using the POL auto-install script.
