Countering sentries

Is it not a viable tactic to counter sentry blobs via a few Battleships with a MJD and a rack of smart bombs or a few stealth bombers to just destroy all the sentries?

Why not just use sniping BSes with MJDs?

Edit: To kill the ships that have kicked out sentries.

You can outrange them with specific setups (assuming you're talking about Ishtars), but then you typically have a fleet that's not good at anything but sniping at sentry drones and Ishtars are mobile enough to just leave if they don't like that fight. Bombing / smartbombing is unreliable since smart fleets can just spend a few seconds starbursting before dropping their drones so that they can't be killed in one aoe.

Yea those two pretty much covered it, either you kite and they leave or their too spread out for that to work well. I would just get outside of the sentry's optimal to try and cut the alpha back a bit and then bring the drones down from mid range where they may stay and take the fight.

Sentry are too powerfil atm - but CCP can not fix everything at the same instance.

Jamming sentries works quite good.

And this is why you should stick to running Bomber's Bar.

Sentry optimal is 60-80km. So...get out of their optimal and get out of your targeting range and optimal range. Waste valuable seconds locking individual drones and not hit them (because: its a drone at 90km from you). Shoot 4 more over the next minute. Watch the Ishtars drop another set of sentries on you.

Once they've dropped their full complement of drones, they warp off, depot up, and reload their drone bay.

Once they run out of sentries, they can visit their DST at a safe and scoop 30 more from its 50Km3 cargo hold.

Rinse, repeat, lose your fleet.

your only realistic options are to either fight fire with fire or just disengage/force disengage

(which is usually a red flag in this game for something needing a major balancing action)

Get yourself a fleet of dual prop hacs, get a warp in on top of the sentries, use a mobile MJD structure to get on top of them, or just mwd over to them. AB around the sentries at a range of 20km or less, kill the ishtars. You can use other ishtars, AB hml cerbs, or beam zealots fit for range. Hell you could even try tier 3 BCs fit for range, although I'd be concerned about tracking at that point. Make sure you have LR web support in case they try to close range to avoid dps.

If they abandon those drones and drop a new set, simply get a new warp in, mjd, or whatever on top of this new set after they've burnt off them and repeat the above process. Once they drop this new set, they'll be unable to reconnect to the old set if they abandon the most recent one, so you won't have to worry about getting shot from your old position.

Failing all that, you could join the chorus of bads in F&I and try crying until CCP nerfs the ishtar, sentries or both.
