Problems with Character Customization

When I'm in the character customization, in the portrait section, I'm unable to change the light intensity or scroll through the light options (the little numer on the bottom left, the default ones work correctly); I can change the values but nothing happens.

I had no problems here before, so maybe something to do with Crucible?

Same here. Been that way since Crucible hit.

I'm having several other issues with character re-customization too. I made some changes to my character's background image and pose, but after clicking finalize, the portrait never changed in-game.I was still seeing the same pre-Crucible portrait I had before. Bizzarely, it changed here in EVEGate, just not in the game. And if i went back into the customization screen, it showed the changes I had made... only the main game screen was still not changing. Undocking and redocking, logging out and back in, even quitting out to Windows and re-launching, nothing had any effect. THEN, I tried calling up the ESC menu, and chose "clear all cache files"... that finally made the changes appear on the main UI.

Another problem: the avatar's lipstick color changed without my consent. It had been medium red, but reset to black when I entered re-customization. I had to change it back. it took several tries before the color change would "stick".

Finally, while in the Portrait screen, any "leather"-textured clothing on the avatar changes its reflectivity as I move the mouse around, becoming extremely glossy (as if the clothing was polished PVC/vinyl instead of leather)... but only as long as the mouse is moving. As soon as I stop, the normal semi-glossy leather appearance returns. (I can even take snapshots for the portrait showing this effect if I bump the mouse as I click the snapshot button.)

Hmm, now I'm finding that further changes I make in re-customization aren't showing up in my main portrait at all anymore (not even after clearing the cache). I'm wondering if there's some limit to how frequently changes are allowed by the server? The changes do appear in Captain's Quarters, just not in the portrait snapshots.

Another thing: the bizzare extra-shininess I see on clothing in the Portrait-maker screen while I'm moving the mouse, also now shows up if I select any character portrait in the game then choose "view full body". Only it's much more intermittent, and happens whether the mouse is moving or not.

The portrait takes some time to renew itself once you've changed it, I remember this happening before Crucible too (sometimes even a day or so).

On the other hand, about that texture problem, have you tried tried changing the "interior shader quality" in EVE graphical options? Worth a try. However, as you put it, it looks like a bug.

when you finalize your portrait, you get a local temporary copy of it. I think there is at least an hour delay before the server even tries to render out your portrait (and if the queue is long it will take longer). That is done so we are not constantly rendering portraits when players keep changing them.
But when the server is done rendering your portrait, your local copy should be replaced by that one.
I don't know why it failed to give you the local copy or update it, but if you can repro it, could you please submit a bugreport on it (because we haven't seen this issue).

Eutelos, I think I had a defect on the light issue, and if I'm not mistaken I found out that this was by design. Your settings are probably too low to handle all the lights in the scene, so there are fewer lights (whether this is by design or not, there is at least a defect on this in the system).

Shahirahh, if you think the shininess issue is a bug, could you please submit a bugreport on it, with screenshots so we can see what you are talking about... I'll take a quick look tomorrow to see if I can repro the issue though.

Yeah, it's all temporary from what I've seen. A minor annoyance. Whenever I change anything on my character, the sunglasses magically become glasses for around a day in-game while they're normal on EVE Gate. The same thing regarding lighting effects my optimal settings since I don't wish to melt my laptop computer. Turning the graphics way up solves this issue, but my computer turns in to a slide projector.

The internet works in mysterious ways. It's a series of tubes, you know. Not a big truck. Or whatever that man was ranting on about years ago...

Thanks for the reply karkur.

Before Crucible I could see all the light effects in the character customization with no problems and I haven't changed anything in the options menu and my hardware configuration is the same too.

For the record, my configuration is:

Texture quality in character creator: medium
Post Processing: high
Shader quality: medium (won't let me set it to high, don't remember if I could before Crucible)
Texture quality: high
LOD quality: high
Shadow quality: high
Interior effects: high
Interior shader quality: high

By the way, the portrait I edited when all this happened just got rendered by the server and the lighting is different from the one I saw when doing the costumization.

yeah, your problem is the "shader quality"... it would need to be set to "high" (I think I just closed your bugreport)

I saw your bugreport but cannot repro the problem.
If you could edit it and list all your graphics settings, that might help.

ThanksSmile

I assume I was able to set that option to high before since I could see the lighting effects with no problems.

So maybe this expansion added a new effect my graphic card can't handle (a new effect to te warp tunnel I think?) and my shader quality is consecuently capped to normal? If that's the case I don't see why I'd have to sacrifice some options that worked before just because of that.

I've got an ATI Radeon HD 3870, by the way.

Thanks again for your reply karkur; that was my bug report, yes :)
