Hello pilots!

We are working on few new overview-related features, and a first iteration will go live on Singularity in the very near future.

-You can now share your overview settings in-game! Simply open your overview settings, then drag and drop an icon into chat, and press Enter. If another pilot clicks the link, your overview will completely overwrite his/hers. The overview profiles are stored on the server, so these links can even be added to mails, bios, notepads, etc. and used later. Overview profiles are not "owned" by anyone, and once a profile is stored, anyone can access it given that they have the link. Please note that only default or saved tab presets can be shared.
-New overview tabs are now created by clicking a little icon to the right of the rightmost tab, similar to how internet browser tabs can be created.

One more thing: since this is a very new feature which includes changes to how we store overview settings on the server, we reserve the right to clean out all the overview profiles on Singularity if needed (we are not expecting this to be necessary right now, but it might happen).

If you have any questions or comments, or if you can find any bug in these features, please feel free to reply to this thread.

EDIT: When clicking an overview link, an un-suppressible modal window pops up to let you know exactly what is going on, and the overview will not be imported unless you click 'Yes'.

I can see this being abused by people sharing the links as other things, and having settings that are totally messed up. Would not wanna be one to click a link that is supposed to be a contract or fleet, only to have it over-ride my overview with setting that will take me time to correct.

Yea some security needs to be added.

Should be a way to store a "default" setting. So if someone tries to muck yours up, you can restore from default. Yes there are ways around it (sending a evemail to yourself with the default), but people won't do it.

This is cool, but definetly abusable.

Add some security as well as a way of restoring overview, and this will be great.

The easiest way by far to stop abuse would be to prevent these links from being posted in local chat.

Beyond that, a restore function would be great.

Yaay!!!!

We included a warning box that cannot be suppressed, hopefully that will prevent any misunderstandings.

Yes. This needs a verification step. 'Are you sure you would like to override your overview settings? Yes/No.'

This is awesome! You know what would add even more awesomeness to this? A separate entry for allied militia in the overview settings!

Also: we will not be removing the old export/import functionality, so players can still store their overview settings that way.

That is a great step, and even though I do not like modal windows, I see the need for one in this situation. Kudos.

Applying glue.

Sisi is now live with these changes and a few other changes (for example further V3 work from Team TriLamdba), which will be part of the next release. Most of the other changes are still in work and there is no need so far for further feedback threads - they will be added as soon as the features are closer to being finished.

Sounds good. Be sure to dump your current settings to a local backup file before importing anyone else's. Just in case - that way we can just import our old settings if we open a settings file and then go "eugh".

Add a 'revert' button if you're feeling fanciful.

People who have not yet posted on the thread have asked:

Condensed tweet:

Quote:
Can overview settings include colortags and backgrounds, not just preset states & column info? Column/tab info, that is .basically "global" overview settings ought to mean global, not "everything but colors"

Please make sure that any default action (pressing Enter) is a negative (No), not a positive. As you may know, people don't read (ex. error messages, confirmation, warnings, wills, power of attorney, EULAs, etc.)
