Why must I run repair.exe after every (almost daily) patch before I can log in ?

I prolly has something to do with the fact that my eve launcher crashes to desktop when I try to run it?

It is rather inconvenient ...

Please advise ...

Stop crashing. Sort out your PC/stop clicking like a psycho when it's doing stuff, whichever it is that needs sorting.

Because you ****** something up, because it doesn't happen to the majority of people.

Step 1) If you're using Windows 7, Disable UAC. If you're using Windows 8 or 8.1, stop being stupid and install Windows 7.
Step 2) Move your Eve installation OUT of Program Files and/or Program Files (x86). Seriously. Move it to C:\Games\Eve or something.
Step 3)
Step 4) Profit!

Because the Legacy Code has too much Psssssssssssssssh, nothing will ever get fixed until CCP stop wasting money on failed sparkle MMOs and instead rewrite the entire backend of EvE from scratch.

Because you've broken your install and/or because your ISP sucks.

Yeah, I've never had to do that. So probably a local issue.

Actually I am using Windows 8.1 with the default install location. Works fine, so it's not even that causing the problem.

My theory on this is that there are some segments of the Eve Community that, for whatever reason, treat their computers somewhat like my 15 year old daughter. They have 47 programs running in their system tray, 90 that start up automatically when the log in, and then wonder why everything seems to be running slowly when they've consumed 75% of their available system memory just by pushing the power button.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

I also have to run the repair.exe each time there is a new patch. If I try and use the launcher, it downloads the patch with no issues, but never applies the thing. I left it a few times for up to an hour (while doing something else) just to come back and see its still stuck on "3/4 applying patch".

Kind of frustrating, but used to it now.

I'll confirm that UAC can and will cause problems if your installation is in "Program Files" or similar system folder and it's not just for EVE.

My solution that resolved absolutely all problems with the launcher is to make a new partition for EVE. It also helps with disk fragmentation (if you are not using SSD) and boosts up performance slightly (faster access to files while playing, since they are on an isolated partition).

Sounds like you'd be better off overclocking an abacus than the rig you're using.

I have to run the repair.exe each time eve is patched as the launcher gets stuck at step 3/4 when updating.

In the repair.exe log I saw lines like this "Unable to delete "D:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\res\audio\758858055.wem", error: [Error 5] Access is denied: 'D:\\Program Files (x86)\\CCP\\EVE\\res\\audio\\758858055.wem'" So I think there is a permission issue with the folder.

I've made a change and will let you know with the next update... talk tomorrow o/

Only dummies run repair.exe. Never run a "repair" program. That's just dumb.

Yep the permission change that I applied to the folder has worked and the update from tonight ran with no trouble when I opened the launcher. I changed the permissions on the installation folder to give "Everyone" modify rights. this has fixed it for me

Windows 8.1, I never had to use repair.exe except for one time in the past year. Sounds like a local issue.BlinkBlinkBlinkBlinkBlink
