Ok, what did CCP screw up in late '10? Was that Incarna?

http://www.eveonline.com/expansions/incursion

Those 3 months were the months before Incursion.

After browsing the old forums - General Discussion - it seems during that time frame the rage was centered mainly on in-game Lag.

Lag so bad it wasn't just affecting Null Sec Fleet Battles, it was everywhere making the game almost unplayable. In no particular order of listing there was a rash of extended downtimes, nodes crashing, server reboots, client disconnects, players experiencing inability to log in or getting 'Black Screen' after log in, game freeze and excessive wait times at Jumpgates to access various systems, etc.

Not to mention a multitude of bugs active in game, existing content being left unfinished, bug fixes causing other working content to become broken, etc.

Also Planetary Interaction was just recently added which was a massive clickfest, a hell of a lot more than it currently is. Along with that there were constant reports of increased Macro-mining / Bots happening in game.

One thing is for sure, players didn't like the idea / news of CCP announcing 18 months for new content (Incarna) as a priority instead of fixing current issues in the game, not to mention allocating a lot of resources to Dust, WoD, Eve Gate, etc..

Plus CCP was asking the playerbase to vote Eve Online as game of the year in the first ever European Games Award or something like that. Anyway that basically turned into a rage thread.

By the way, Eve Online actually won that contest.

Shocked

After carefully examining the presented data I have drawn the conclusion that it's... a big squiggly line.

When I started this game, at least for my most recent iteration of playing it, I remember on the login screen that there were more like 30000-40000 people on pretty much any given day. Now its more like 20k all the time. Is this really surprising that some of our chief content creators are being driven out of the game for helping to improve game mechanics?
