I've also been getting crashes, three so far since the patch. No auto-restart. It seems to happen (at least for me) when alt-tabbing, which I do a fair bit either to switch to my other account or to do something like checking email while my orca slowly crosses a system. So far it has happened with only one client running and with two running. In the case of two, one has crashed while the other was fine.

hi all,

for some weeks now I have trouble on running my desktop computer.

After not using the system for about a year, I had to do some driver and software updates which I did.

One of the driver updates included the graphics card drivers for my Sapphire HD 4850; I Installed the Catalyst Control Center 11.11.
Some days later I experienced some black screens while playing EVE, followed by a message window talking about "VPU Revovery".

This was sometimes accompanied by another message that told me :

"The Catalyst Control Centreā„¢ is nct supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. Please upgrade your AMD Graphics driver or enable your AMD Adapter using The Displays Manager".
("nct* supported" is written correctly as it was shown on the windows message window)

I also experienced that after some of those VPU recoveries, hardware acceleration was automatically minimized.

There were also messages that my gfx card may not be compatible to my monitor.

In fact, this system ran totally fine for some two years after I bought it in September 2008, mainly used for games like EVE Online, FUEL, Counterstrike, BF2 and so on.

So I took the card out and gave it to some local PC doctor to have it checked and after he used some air pressure on it he said it would be alright.

But then it got worse: for some days now my computer crashes after some minutes, without even playing a game.
And it just crashes, theres no automatic restart.

So I have two questions:

1. if those crashes are still part of the driver update story, what went wrong with it and what drivers should I try to run the card?

2. if the crashes are not related to the gfx card, what other things would I have to check in the few minutes the system would allow me to run it?
