Smartbombed in warp

So I was wondering (Not crying that I lost my pod, I don't care about that) how I can be smartbombed to death while my pod or shuttle is still in warp? If this is possible then why can't we just setup a line of smartbombers along a gate to gate route in lowsec?

Bottom line: Is this an exploit or is it a viable strategy?

Totally viable. Not consistent but totally viable. It's also why I tell people, to no avail, to tank their covops.

Nothing against doing this, even asked CCP about it myself and it's intended.

It's the only way to kill pods, ceptors or covops in some situations.

1: NEVER EVER take a direct line to your destination. When entering a system, warp to a random celestial, THEN warp to destination. Going gate to gate leads to tears.
2: For extra safety (high local numbers in null and blobs on D-scan): make a safe spot (SS) when warping to first celestial, warp to it. Then warp to second celestial from SS1 and make SS2, THEN warp to destination.

You aren't killed in warp, you are killed in the time between landing on grid at the destination and activating the out-gate.

I live by this technique. Non-Linear Safe Spots are an amazing tool for staying alive against a superior force.

Happened to me in FW zone out near Hek once. All it takes is good timing from the camp and you're toast. Smile

Just to be clear, your ship's warp drive is still active as you load grid. The smartbombing occurs near the end of your ship's warp, just before the warp bubble collapses. This places the smartbombing party close to the target's destination, but not so close that smartbombs cannot be activated.

Yeah ive been killed going into warp before by smartbombs, best way to avoid it is to bounce celestials and d-scan the gate.

See a Pipebomb? Go another way
See Nothing? Should be clear unless the smartbomber is cloaked, which you really cant do much about sort of like a cloaky dictor on the gates

That's what a tactical is for, and I have them on every route I use with any frequency. One of my 3 covops losses was making tacticals in syndicate. Warp to the tactical - see battleships on d-scan - don't bother warping to the gate.

Especially for those horrible out-of-plane gates where every celestial is in the same direction - its nice to have a bookmark a few hundred km off the side of those to give you a choice for warping away from a bubble, or to come in without getting dragged.

It is incredabily hard to time correcly. Running sb's dont catch the tankies, manual press cant with 7 or 8 sb's same time, need to use 2 groups milisec's differance. its fun though
