Nubb question; about Chains, and some other stuff.

Last week, while doing some casual exploration in my trusty old Buzzard, I stumbled across this strange space bubble named K162.
It wouldn't speak in local nor would it return fire, so I figured it was some kind of nullbear who'd got separated from it's fleet.
When I tried bumping it out to lowsec, in order for it to fire up a distress cyno, it suddenly swallowed me whole.

Imagine my surprise, when I didn't reanimate as per usual from my clone bay, but instead woke up Inside some sort of giant anomaly with this pulsating blue thingy inside, which I must say, was totally marvelous to look at!

I got very excited over both being alive and and well, but also from finding something I've never encountered.
What was this place? Where had I come? Why hadn't I seen this before? Was this El Dorado?

While jumping up and down in my pod screaming over coms how everybody must come see this, I ran back to where I came from, bookmarked the place and scurried to the nearest stargate to eagerly await the rest of my team.

At this point everyone was excited, since I don't get excited much these days, it had to be something special, right?
Right, but by the time they had moved their fat hulls to where I had told them, fleet warped everyone and landed on grid, the space bubble had mysteriously disappeared.

Bummer. No-one will ever believe me that El Dorado exists.
I must find it again.

So, now I kind of live in one of these strange number-anomalies, full of other strange anomalies inside of it, spawning space bubbles which will swallow me and spit me out into other number-anomalies.
I'm on a quest to finding this blue pulsating thing again and I will not rest until I find it.

I've been overhearing other pilots talking about 'goat chains' and 'chain potential' and stuff.
I'm starting to believe it has nothing to to with necklaces, but is somehow related to travel and even mapping maybe.
I have been reading up on reports the entire week, but any information about these 'chains' has eluded me.

Therefore, I must ask you this:
Where do I go to seek knowledge about how chains are put together in order to utilize that information in my travels?

sooooo...You just want a mapping tool? What?

I don't know.
It seems as if really I just don't understand the terminology 'chain' to begin with.

But there are mapping tools you say?
Sounds like a handy tool to have maybe.

A chain is simply a bunch of systems that are connected via wormholes.

e.g. you start in a C5 with a static C6, that C6 has a static C1 which has a static lowsec
C5-> C6-> C1->low

Of course there can be branches in your chain, e.g. that C1 could have an incoming C2, which again has a static high.

Mapping tools register which system you are in and draw a map when you jump between systems in the chain. Makes it easier to navigate in large chains. (You still have to bookmark the wormholes though)

Welcome to the unknown.

Danger lies within, but with that danger comes the potential of near limitless wealth.

You have indeed found El Dorado, but like the many explorers the have come before you must learn how to navigate this promised land. With terminology and markers unique to the unknown, luckily many have come before and noted what they found.

Chains may hold connections back to known space, needed to resupply. However do not linger too long least you lose the awareness required to survive and prosper in the depths of unknown space.

They also hold connections deeper into the unknown, used to hunt or to exploit the riches held within.

Lucky young explorer there are many tools designed to map these chains - siggy or other more recent inventions.

Beware the dangers but enjoy your foray into the unknown.

Good luck.
