I notice that for some transactions in my wallet (both corp and personal) the description is prefixed with a [r]. Can someone illuminate the darkness for me?

I believe it stands for "reason". You can mouse over it to see whatever not accompanies it. You can send someone money and attach reason, then if they are offline and you send a split you owe them, they can figure out where it came from.

Edit, Also shows if killing rats, what system the bounty was earned in among other things.
