I see this quite a bit in local chat and on the occasion you do get the odd scrub who will send you a link claiming it's a pretty cool picture.

My question is what are the repercussions to an individual if the logs clearly show them sending one of this innocuous links which is in fact designed to obtain your IP address?

I clicked on this link and expected a cat picture, and all I got was this keylogger.

Most likely your IP address changes every time you boot your machine or router, who gives a hoot. If you're afraid of getting DDoSed and they manage to do it, change ISP's to one which actually doesn't allow traffic like that to go through.
