Way back before this ship ner- rebalancing started happening, I used to spend my time running my Lv 4 missions in a Tengu and sometimes a Nighthawk when I was bored.

With all the changes that have happened since then, I'm really at a loss for what I'd actually be capable of completing Lv 4 missions in. Is the Tengu still as good as it once was? Or for that matter is it even viable at all? If not what are my options at this point? I'm unwilling to move to a Raven, Rattlesnake or Golem and I am also unwilling to switch to non-Caldari ships.

Its a pretty ****** ship for level 4s now if my sources are correct. I refuse to fly the same ships as those caldari scum, but the heavy missile Nerf really hit the hull hard. That said, it still tanks well, is easy to get into, and is a great ship for some jobs. Anyways, if you refuse to switch races, and refuse to get into a battleship, then I hear FW plex farming just came back into style. Lol

But seriously, if you love your races ships, I can respect that. But you're going to want to go up to battleship class ships to really make the most of level 4 missions. If its any consolation, there are a LOT of new tools on the field which make battleships actually almost fun in PvE(if anyone considers PvE fun). Microjump drives "blink" a battleship 100km in a direction which allows snipers to actively kite in missions, so you can put those resources towards more damage. Ancillary shield booster tank fits can be kind of fun, although they're kinda silly for PvE. I do like to pop one onto a mael I have for blitzing though.

Take everything I say with a grain of salt. I do not fly the engineering failures that caldari call ships. I just have some close friends who do, and they've abandoned heavy missiles for PvE.

If you are not open to another ship or race what does it matter if its still viable? You've made it pretty clear its what you'll be using anyways Roll

Either way even back when people thought it was good I thought the Tengu was bad, its even worse now...

I have met only 1 L4 my tengu couldnt handle, and that was because i didnt read up before hand and shot 3 spawn triggers in a row. A well fit gu will still run any L4 in the books no problem. Also command ships can too since they get beefy tanks but its sub optimal compared to the T3.

Reccomend getting a battleship if you want to run them faster, or taking that tengu to do low sec L4's in a quiet system and getting out of high sec

Yes you can do missions in a Tengu.

What are your options?
Since you're unwilling to fly anything else it looks like you answered that question yourself.

If you just want the scoop on how to tengu now, HAM-gu with prop mod and speed tank more, while EHP/s tanking slightly less. Slightly more attention intensive, but better DPS numbers, better application and less slowboating.

Talking more,

Flying crazier,

And drinking more

It is not as good as it used to be. It's still possible but .. well ... you truly would be better off in some BS hull for solo lev 4 running nowadays. There is some other options that are also pretty ok but they are not caldari (Isthar, Gila even perhaps) and they are not quite as good as BS hulls.

Keep in mind - 2 things have happened: (1) heavy missile nerf (2) cruise missile buff.

If you must use Tengu then it still works. Just slower than it used to be. Nighthawk is not much better off - if anything the heavy missile nerf hit it even harder as far as missionrunning goes in my opinion.

Run incursions if you want to bear in highsec and don't mind paying attention.

Just an idea: If it is just the Raven design you don't like, how about a Navy Scorp ? Tons of med slots and tanking bonus on top, could make a nice torp boat with all this space for painters.

Nighthawk seems to have gone from suboptimal to barely viable.

and tengu still works, it just feels slow as hell after running with maxed out marauders and pirate battleships. But if it is all you know it might be more tolerable than watching paint dry.

I agree the Nighthawk was okay but now it's not even comparable to a plain T1 Raven. If it had a HM velocity bonus it might be okay....

I won't even get into lets take the Drake, spray paint some red on it and that'll be the Nighthawk *puke*

the sub 50km Furry HM range really what kills it imo. Not that the essentially Kinetic only damage helped. The slot layout, and tank are both fine. and that it had a drone bay at least gave it something unique over the tengu.

and that was certainly not a visual upgrade....

I do lvl4 mission with Tengu.. I've done alone Angel Extravaganza.. but it took me about 2hours+.. You can handle any kind of damage with Tengu.. I've never went low then 70% of my shields doing lvl4 misisons... The only problem doing them in Tengu is the time.. it really takes some TIME... and few thousands of missiles..

Have you looked into exploration? I find both combat and relic/data sites to be a lot of fun.

your options are Rokh or hybrid Tengu.
