IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied

I'm a returning player trying to get in to see the new expansion and I can't get passed the launcher.. repair tool fails as well. I have uninstalled the game and downloaded fresh and I am getting nowhere.

Two generic things worth trying are:

- turn off your antivirus
- run the installer as "administrator"

did both, same thing.. client update was unsuccessful.

Generally if repair tool fails, you have a very bad network connection.

For what it is worth, you can get the latest version from: EVE Online Windows Installer via BitTorrent

Anyways, this sounds like a permissions issues with the folder structure. Since I do not know your level of competence with a computer I cannot give you the instructions to make you have read and write access to any folder.

Because the Legacy Code has too much Psssssssssssssssh, nothing will ever get fixed until CCP stop wasting money on failed sparkle MMOs and instead rewrite the entire backend of EvE from scratch.

This... I have the test server client installed on my secondary drive as not to take up space on my SSD.

Silly question: Have you restarted your PC?

Sometimes your OS (or some random app) can open a file handle and refuse to let it go (because it's evil). If this happens you'll often get an access denied error if trying to remove or modify that file. I'd restart, disable AV temporarily and run the repair tool before doing anything else.

Blackscreen, hmmm - check that you meet the minimum graphics driver requirements (DirectX for instance). Those were pushed up.
