What happens if you bump a cyno ship off grid?

With the cynosural field active ofcourse. I'm just curious. Has anyone done it?

The cyno is independant of the ship that launches it. So the cyno would stay in the same place. The ship would just fall off the grid like anything else that falls off the grid and be stuck there until the cyno cycle runs out. Nothing special.

The cyno isn't entirely independent of the ship. If this were true destroying the ship would have no effect on the cyno.

I would suspect bumping it off grid would have no effect but how about destroying the ship off grid?

Maybe something to try on the test server.

Would the grid not just extend out with the ship?

If this wasn't the case everyone would be bumping their cyno alts off grid to hide them for a complete cycle. It would be interesting when a group of enemies arrives at a cyno you put up, only to find no ship. It has been bumped off grid and is nowhere to be seen, but the cyno is still up. New undocumented ninja feature?

Not if there's already a grid wall and you bump the ship through the wall.

I believe this is an exploit. I know bumping a cyno ship into a POS is.

But the POS is basically an invulnerability field, while an off-grid cyno ship isn't invulnerable, just cleverly hidden from immediate view. It can still be found and killed by conventional means thus this shouldn't be an exploit.

Grids only extend so far before splitting off into two grids though, so if the bumper is fast enough and willing to put in the effort they should be able to get it off grid before anyone shows up.

grids cannot combine, so you can create a grid wall where the ship must cross to another grid

Exactly, but scanning a ship off grid requires *gasp* "effort" so it's obviously an exploit
/sarcasm

As I said before, an undocumented feature :) Now the real question is, can this be refined to a process that will consistantly work to hide the cyno ship?

Hard but not impossible. And yes, the objective is to get the cyno ship off the same grid as the cyno, once that is done the bumper can leave.

In fact, depending on the location of the grid the bumper leaving could force the cyno ship to pop out into it's own grid, but there's no way to do that with a high consistency.

yes its possible to bump the cyno ship into an adjacent grid, quite easy if you prep the grid walls in advance with cans or corpses. you need something with mass and speed to bump, like a 100mn vaga or a mach to bump more then a few km.

what happens then is that a cyno is on one grid, and the cyno ship is stuck like 10km on the other side of the grid wall in the adjacent grid.

bumping inside a pos shield IS an exploit i believe; haven't used it myself in combat.
