Am I the only one that doesn't care what the character looks like other than the ten minutes I spent making it? You can't interact with anyone in your character form. How about a "Most handsome and beautiful spaceship" thread?

I care. I look at people's portraits all the time, and appreciate when someone's put in the work and done it well. It has little to do with the game itself, but I still count it as part of my EVE experience.

Maybe I'm just a bitter vet... I remember when your character portrait wasn't so fancy. Some people thought when they made walking in stations and the captain's quarters Eve would have a WoW like character interaction system... Yea that door has been bolted shut ever since.

I'm more focused on the flying spaceships part of Eve but I won't knock anyone for enjoying other aspects... I'll occasionally spin a ship myself Lol

This is completely untrue.

It's not about technical possibilities, but about imagination.
At least until we get "gameplay" features, eventually,
which I do not actually prefer over my imagination.

There is no possible way to disconnect the avatar and it's portrait from the person behind.
Even if you do not care about it, it's still an expression of a part of yourself.
In this case, that you don't care about it enough. (that's seriously superficially speaking, but still true)

Portraits have a meaning. There is no way that a human looks at an image and doesn't react
in one way or the other, even if the reaction is to not care about it and move on.

First impressions always count, even for pixel images.
As long as it's a human, it works.

Portraits transport feelings.
It's a message.

There is so much more that could be done,
that would add tons of depths and possibilities ...

... and I am not talking about WiS, because I don't give a crap about WiS ...

... but we are not being heard even at the early stage.

They added no clothes at the last release, which is sad.

There's a multitude of reasons why CCP should pay more attention to this, us, whatever,
because we, even the lousiest roleplayers, create content literally every day for everyone involved.

And what do you do exactly?

I don't think anyone looks at another pilot's portrait and says "That looks like a nice person... You know what yes there's a Loki on D scan but I bet she's just belt ratting. I'm going to say hi to her in local and all is safe"

I kind of like RP but I don't see much of it in Eve. People will RP in Eve in the sense of pretending to be something their not to trick and kill you. That's about the most RP I've seen.

In Eve lately just highsec missions and occasional lowsec PVP roams. RL at the moment kind of makes a nullsec commitment difficult .

You're wrong.

I use the portrait as intel tool all the time.
It tells tons about the person behind.

Ignorance doesn't change reality.
You don't know better ... you believe that all you know is all there is to know ... and that's it.

At least you're expressing yourself that way, which is kind of sad.

So you admit you don't really know enough to form an opinion.

That's okay then. :)

I don't agree with this at all, the new character creator is a fantastically flexible and creative tool. Any perceived similarities between characters rest solely on the lack of creativity or interest from the players themselves.

Just because you don't care about it doesn't mean that noone cares. It would be the same if I said that nullsec sov is pointless just because I don't bother.

There are people out there who spend much effort into making their char look in a way they enjoy. Myself included. Likewise we like to see the results of other people doing the same. So it is as much gameplay for us than it is for some people to have the name of their alliance on the map.

EVE actually has quite a sizable and rich roleplay community.

There's various "main" ingame channels for it, as well as countless private ones. Even an entire subforum (The IGS) dedicated to nothing but pure roleplay.

If it's something you enjoy or are interested in then just poke one of your friendly community RP'ers and we'd happily steer you in the right direction (without killing you). Smile

I agree with Sibyyl on this. The new CC is too bland and most races look the same. It lacks some of the unique things that really sets the races apart. Now there is mostly just different variations of t-shirts, jackets and shirts that don't have the weird scifi style that the old one had.

The new CC is great with the flexibility and options on how to make your char look. But the actual styles are rather limited.

Yeah, now the racial trait of character from bloodline are too strong when you create a character, you can easily recognize it by just viewing the portrait quickly. Even by working hours on a character, a strong raciale trait from your bloodine will remain.

It is not really a problem if you have other way to distinguish your character, (by pose, cloth, haircute) but actually there is a lack of option.

I know there is many cloths you cant buy, but they are ready (had use them on SiSi), but ccp dont release them, for unknow reason, i saw too a section "haircut" (on SiSi again ) when they where testing the new store a few month ago, it was quickly withdrawn and not released on tranquility, but maybe we can hope the better for us, fashion victim.

I pretty sure he just mean "physical" contact with others characters, like incarna had to be.

This, tbh, makes no sense.

There is no way this could *ever* beat imagination. I believe it's sad that people more and more consume content,
instead of imagining it ... because imagination makes it real.

I think it's weird that he isn't aware of this.
