No scan signatures: When do they respawn?

Hey everybody. I recently just got Hacking level 1 trained, so I went out of my newbie system to scan for some Radar sites, but in two systems I searched, I could find a single scan signature!

So, I was wondering, when will they respawn? Or, am I just doing it wrong? (I used 4 scanner probes to scan multiple areas of each system to no avail)

I know I could just go to other systems, but didn't have enough time tonight.

Thanks,

I did a bit of scanning today and all I could find was one anomaly!

Guess you need a lot of patience for this part of the game! Big smile

There is not going to be a signal in every single system, especially if you're scanning in busy areas. Fortunately, it is completely trivial to figure out if there's something in a system or not. By stretching probes to their max range (32 AU for cores) you can blanket an entire system. Signals will spawn no more than ~5 AU from any celestial object (I think wormholes may be a bit further, actually).

Signatures respawn whenever they disappear elsewhere. If you find a wormhole and fly through it until it collapses, a new wormhole has spawned somewhere else. If you run a hacking complex and finish it, it despawns and respawns elsewhere.

What this means is that busy areas (the more populated parts of hisec, for example) are not going to have many signatures. Dead-end lowsec or nullsec, on the other hand, will have craploads of them.

Exploration would be pretty boring if you never had to leave the system, eh?

hey jake, im glad to see you are trying your hands at exploration.

I use Dotlan maps to find 'blocks' of space that are somewhat off tangent from main hubs,

These areas usually consist of 8 or 9 systems which form somewhat of a loop, and i run through these on a daily basis. Usually when no signal is found in one system, there often a couple of signals in the next system in the 'block'

use evemaps.dotlan.com to look for 'blocks' for exploration

Dear Rahlekk Kanenald,

Congratulations for your first steps into Exploration! If you are in crowded systems or regions, you will probably notice that other people were sometimes faster than you and found some interesting before you.

I would recommend that you are looking for some less crowded areas, the in-game map can help you with finding those regions/systems. Just open the map with F10 or from your neocom ,choose Star Map. At World Map Control Panel choose Star Map Tab -> Stars -> Statistics -> Average Pilots in the last 30 minutes. This should give you a nice overview of the population in space and will enable you to choose less crowded systems. Make sure that you notice the security status of the system.

A system with a low population doesn't guarantee you a bunch of exploration sites, but your chances might be better there to find some at least.

Edit: managed to miss that Phantom did actually mention to check the sec status of the systems. Somehow.
