New Player Exploration Question

I have been playing Eve for about 3 days, and I started doing exploration after all the tutorial missions. I started doing them in low sec and got about 2 mil at every camp. I did lose my ship twice, but it was more than worth it. Today I decided to do a suicide mission into null sec. I just kept immediately jumping at every system if there was another player until I finally found a system with a relic site. I start doing the site and did 5 of the 6 containers when I noticed another player enter the system. I abandon the last container immediately warp away and get back to high sec without any trouble.

The thing is. That one site was worth over 60 mil which is easily 10x what I had before. Are all null sec sites worth so much, or was I extremely lucky?

PS: I did this with no cloak and no weapons with only 3 in archeology and 2 in hacking

I don't know about nullsec exploring, but I do know you now have to name that ship "greased up deaf guy".

Not that's very common in null sec, you can with luck get 100m per site with a bit of luck.

CCP desperately wants people to be in null so they've ramped up the ISK you can make out there.

You were lucky with that one.

But in the end, if you compare a month of running sites in high/low/null, then null will be better in the end because of risk vs. reward system.

That said, even in high or low sec you can be lucky with what you encounter, hence you ahve to look over a longer period of time and take an average.

Consider adding a cargo scanner to your fit, you can scan the cans to see what is inside them so you don't waste time with low value cans.

The sites are random and no one really knows how the loot is seeded. That being said the general understanding is that the lower the sec status the greater the reward. But has anyone actually done the research to prove it? I don't know.

Somewhat lucky, but Exploration is a numbers game - if you keep doing Null- sites, you will keep on finding sites worth that much or more, intermittently. If you keep going into null- in cheap, slippery ships(and an updated medical clone), you'll lose some ships but make lots of money, albeit inconsistently.

A tip on how null-sec players operate - We have a separate chat window open at all times dedicated to local intel. If someone spots a non-allied pilot enter system, we habitually drag the person's name into the intel chanel, report his location, and ship type if we see you. And if a group of corpmates are in your vicinity, and on voice comms, there's a high likelihood that they'll try to organize chokepoints, or attempt to box you in, and run you down. We can get quite organized, at times.

If you get caught and popped, be friendly. It's a good way to go.

So good luck, and keep making calculated risks, you renegade. ;)

I can verify the part about being organized, but only "at times".

@OP: one way to get in and out in somewhat safer manner is to probe down wormholes in hisec and lowsec which lead straight to null.

Shocked

Gratz and welcome to Eve.

Sounds like you'll have a long and rewarding career here.

This is by far the best way.

It doesn't even need to be a direct null-to-high or null-to-low connection - you can find a wormhole from null to WH space (which is common), then probe out a chain of wormholes that gets you to space without bubbles.

OP...

Congrats on figuring out that the ships in this game are simply disposable tools.

You probable already know this, or are learning it, but there are 3 things to become adept at using when traveling around more hostile areas of New Eden:

1. Local Chat... set it in it's own window and monitor it at all times.
2. D-Scan... use it for quick identification of ships in your area and their location relative to you.
3. Probes... find the sites, make the ISK.

Have fun, fly it like it was free of charge!

You were "lucky", but I wouldn't say extremely lucky - said amount of money is not that rare really. There's money to be made in null, have no question about it.

Also take a look at this channel, it will probably help.

A piece of advice (which you might know already; sorry, if so); don't trawl around highsec in an eggshell hull that shouts "I might be full of exploring loot!". With a fat exploring load, the danger isn't over when you get to highsec.

I recommend docking ASAP and unloading the explorer; come back with a more robust ship, or better yet let a courier take your goods to market. A reasonable proportion of their value is a good trade for letting someone else take the risk. Also, this lets you get straight back to exploring; you only need to shuttle to a trade hub now and then to sell stuff when you want to realise some of the cash.
